Late in his career from 1925 to 1931, the Finnish composer Jean Sibelius wrote four pieces for solo organ chronologically as follows: Intrada, Op. 111a (1925); Preludium, JS 153/1 (1926); Postludium, JS 153/2 (1926); and Funeral Music (in Finnish: Surusoitto), Op. 111b (1931) Two additional pieces by Sibelius that have entered the organ repertoire are the Opening Hymn (Avaushymni) and Marche funèbre (Surumarssi or Funeral March), which the composer wrote in 1927 as part of the Masonic Ritual Music (Vapaamuurareiden rituaalimusiikkia, Op. 113); nevertheless, each piece can be performed as a standalone work.
