Simon J Fjell Co-founder of PermaCulture Institute (1976) a global organisation with 150,000 graduates from sustainable development training courses.


Seeing so much human and environmental need for sustainable development he was the creator & some time operator of networks working with indigenous peoples in the Amazon and Miskito Coast of Nicaragua resulting in the establishment of numerous training centres. He has worked extensively on alternatives to slash and burn. In the early ‘90’s he had a vision of valuing forests well ahead of carbon credit markets. He has developed pro poor sustainable enterprises within and surrounding rainforests that provided sustainable incomes without forest destruction.

He has helped to develop commercial carbon projects with Indigenous Peoples in Australia with wind farms, biofuel plantations and land management for carbon credits. He is developing proposals for the Philippines and Madagascar that benefit from carbon finance as start up funds to develop further bio-social enterprises.

More recently Simon has been involved in the design of sustainable property developments having won recognition and awards. He has presented on sustainable property design within Australia and oversea. In the Philippines he is currently co-founder of the World's first 100% solar powered telecommunications company which is also 100% carbon offset. The company will be listed on NASDAQ in the first quarter of 2019. Its data centres and regional telecom offices will be designed in a sustainable manner as will a large company residential training campus and innovation hub.
