Can we describe the social systems of one animal or another in pedestrian terms that are easily accessible to lay persons? If so, let's use the terminology of human sociality. just kick it around & see if things make sense.

Example: Hyena documentary

Africa's Hunters: Survivors of the Plains (S01E06, 2017) describes the social system of hyenas in a way that is compelling to the average viewer. But also helps the viewer understand knowledge that was gained through scientific study.

The social systems of humans, the social systems of non-human animals

Surely there are overlaps between the social systems of humans and the social systems of non-human animals. (see my user sub-page: non-human animals.) But the way academia seems to be arranged affects the way wikip article-topics are arranged. And thereby, any lay-person curiosity has to go up & down these weird separate mountains to gain simple lay person style insights about animal social systems.

Sociality - this article is about the social dimension of the lives of non-human animals.

Sociology

Sociology - this article is a difficult-to-wade-into page about the the vast, layered topic of all human social systems & phenomena. The very idea of society itself is examined. Yet the article takes an approach that I suppose is like the discipline itself. It is super weirdly focused. Topics like history/ human history, our evolution as a species (including our interaction with animals), seems to be not precisely germane.

• the word "animal" does not appear in the sociology article.
• the first appearance of the word "Earth" appears in a context that is virtually retarded if you are looking for an intelligible confirmation that human social phenomena emerged on this planet.
