Article Critique: Volleyball

[edit]

I visited the Volleyball[1] page on Wikipedia, and found three aspects of it worth commenting on: lack of references, dead links, and citations that need updating.

Article Review

References (1)

[edit]

There are a decent amount of references on this page, but when you visit the page, there is a warning label at the top stating the page is in need of expert help due to the lack of references. This should be a clear message that the pages references are either not enough, not updated, or non-reliable. So, I dug a little deeper and discovered that it was actually a little bit of all three, which two of the three will be talked about in another heading.

[edit]

When you first visit the pages references, the very first link is a dead link, meaning it takes you nowhere but to a page that 'can't be found.' On the page, the first link is supposedly to take us to a rule book, but since it is a dead link we get nothing from it. Rules, believe it or not, are vital to the game and should be updated on the page for anyone who is trying to develop a decent understanding of this complex sport.

Citation Age

[edit]

Throughout my search on this page, I noticed that some of the citations are out of date. For example, #16-19 are all references to more rule books[2]. But, those rule books were last updated in 2011, and the rules have since been changed. Not any dramatic changes, but enough to make a difference between scoring or losing a point during a game. For example, in this rule book it states that contact with the net is OK as long as it does not interfere with the game. That rule has changed, and any net contact is no longer allowed.

Summary

[edit]

Overall, I would say that this page is well constructed and goes very deep into depth on important topics and explanations. Obviously, there was no major changes that I would make to this page other than reference updating. Without reliable resources, it's hard to tell whether the information is found to be faulty or not. From my overview, everything seems to be true to its fullest extent and up-to-date on page editing (last edited 08 OCT 2017).
