75th Anniversary of the Great Victory
Traditions of celebration
[edit]- It's been 75 years since the Great Patriotic War ended. The events of that war are a distant past, but this victory remains in everyone's memory. Those years left a deep mark on the fate of every family, because about 27 million people died at the military front. Almost every city has a memorable landmark, and 12 cities in Russia have been awarded the title of "Hero City". Russia failed to hold traditional celebrations this year due to the coronavirus epidemic, so the victory parade was held in the summer in special quarantine conditions. Every year on May 9, thousands of people take part in an immortal regiment, this time every citizen had the opportunity to send an e-mail photo of a war veteran to be shown online.
Feat of 28 Panfilov
[edit]- During the Great Patriotic War, a lot of combat operations were carried out and thousands of divisions were formed. One of the most famous actions is the feat of Panfilov's Twenty-Eight Guardsmen. On November 16, 1941, this rifle division took part in the defense of Moscow near Dubosekovo and destroyed about 18 German tanks. All those who died in that battle were awarded the title of heroes of the Soviet Union.
Ivan Vasilyevich Panfilov
[edit]- Ivan Vasilyevich Panfilov was the commander of this rifle division, he also took part in World War I. In 1941, he personally formed a 316th Division in Almaty. Panfilov died on November 19, 1941 near the city of Volokolamsk, being mortally wounded.
Memorials
[edit]- The monument dedicated to 28 Panfilovites is installed in the village of Dubosekovo near Moscow, and Almaty even has a park with an architectural monument, which depicts all 28 people. Another recognizable monument dedicated to the Great Patriotic War is Mamayev Kurgan. It’s located in Volgograd, during the war it was the main military object of the Battle of Stalingrad
