Cheyne Purdue, born 1945, is an Australian painter and art teacher who has won multiple Tasmanian art awards, notably Tasmanian Art Award, Awarded by J. Carrington Smith, LTC, Launceston.


Life and training

Purdue started painting portraits at 11 years old and has been teaching painting since earlier than 1962 [1]. Her earlier years of painting were in New South Wales and Queensland, then later taught and painted in Tasmania[2]. Between 1988 and 2004, Purdue painted 12 murals about the town history in towns including Sheffield, Latrobe, Port Sorell, and Hawley. She had residencies in 2002, Artist in Residence, Rotary Club of Nth. Launceston [3], and in 2005, Artist in Residence, Devonport Choral Society, My Fair Lady [3]. In 1994 she built Galerie Chantilly [1] as a gallery of her work.
