Öresund

[edit]

The Öresund Region has a long history of cooperation. The first vision of the region dates back to the 1960, but it was first properly realised in the 1990, when the Öresund Bridge between Sweden and Denmark was built. In 1993 the Öresund Committee was formed by regions, municipalicies and county in the Capital Region in Denmark and Scania in Sweden. The aim of the committee is to discuss and make decisions regarding the regions development opportunities. It was first in 1996 that the region became entilted to Structural Funds in the Interreg II A-programme. The programme recieved approx. 13 million euros.

For the next generation of Interreg (Interreg III) starting in 2000 the programme continued. The budget increased to approx. 31 million euros.[2]
