Analysis of wind velocity :-

I have analysis wind velocity in Rajouri region of Jammu ( Baba Ghulam shah badshah University Rajouri) for 30 days by a hand handling device known as "ANNEMOMETER" With ever increasing population demand of energy is also increasing but conventional sources of energy such as coal, petroleum and natural gas are limited and will not last in coming future. So the use of non-conventional sources of energy such as wind energy, solar energy & tidal energy will increase to meet the increasing demand of energy. Wind energy uses kinetic energy of the wind. This kinetic energy can be used to produce electricity by using flow of wind through wind turbines to mechanically powered generators for electric power. The assessment of wind resources of a location is carried out to determine the viability or the non-viability of a wind energy project. The most significant parameter which is needed to be considered to assess any wind resource is the wind speed as the wind power project mainly depends on the magnitude of wind velocity. A wind turbine is a device that converts the wind’s kinetic energy into electrical power. Wind turbines can be used to generate large amounts of electrical energy in wind farms both onshore and offshore. These wind turbines can be classified as: 1) Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (VAWT) 2) Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine (HAWT) 1.1.1 Vertical Axis Wind Turbine: The vertical axis wind turbine is an old technology, dating back to 4,000 years ago. The rotor of the VAWT rotates vertically around its axis. Though it is not as effective as a HAWT, it does offer benefits in low wind situations where HAWT’s have a hard time operating. It tends to be easier and safer to build, and it can be mounted close to the ground and handle turbulence better than the HAWT. 1.1.2 Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine: The horizontal axis wind turbine is a turbine in which the axis of the rotor’s rotation is parallel to the wind stream and the ground. Most HAWT’s today are two- or three- bladed, though some may have fewer or more blades.

1.2 Wind Resources in Jammu and Kashmir Jammu and Kashmir is considered to be one of the best zones for micro wind turbines. Jammu and Kashmir State is fairly untapped in field wind energy however there is a significant scope of harnessing wind energy in different districts if Jammu and Kashmir State.
