Shaun William Foist (born August 10, 1983)[1] is an American drummer from Middletown, Ohio. He is best known for being the drummer for the rock bands Breaking Benjamin[2] and Picture Me Broken.[1]

Formative Years[edit]

Shaun Foist was born and raised in Middletown, Ohio, about 25 miles outside of Dayton. He first became interested in drumming at the age of six, being inspired by his father, William 'Bill' Foist (05/25/55-06/29/13), who played drums in local 1970s classic rock bands up until his passing. The senior Foist allowed his son to sit in on rehearsals while teaching him rudimentary drumming skills. At age 10, Foist entered his grade school talent show, playing the Allman Brothers Band song "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed", drawing a positive reception and receiving an invitation to join the Madison Junior High School's band. As he neared the end of his time at Madison High School, Shaun received citations from Miami University in Oxford, OH in both 2000 and 2001 for Drums and Percussion, as well as receiving the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award for the 2000/2001 school year.[3]

Picture Me Broken[edit]

Foist joined Picture Me Broken in 2011.[4] During his time with the band, Foist recorded on one EP titled 'Mannequins,' [5] appeared in one music video (Torture)[6] and played various venues on the West Coast and on tours including Seduce and Destroy Tour with OTEP and One-Eyed Doll,[7] and the Alice Cooper / Marilyn Manson Masters of Madness Tour[8]

Breaking Benjamin[edit]

On August 20, 2014, a new Breaking Benjamin lineup was introduced on the band's official Facebook page via a video teaser [9] with an Ohio radio station making note that Foist, one of the state's locals, was taking on the drummer role in the band. On September 19 and 20, 2014, the band played its first two sold out shows with their revamped lineup at Gator's Pub and Eatery in Luzerne, PA.[10][11] In an interview with RockRevolt Magazine, Foist revealed that it was several YouTube videos shot of him playing Breaking Benjamin songs which helped secure his position in the band.[12] Foist joined Cincinnati, Ohio DJ Fin Rock live on the air in September on 96Rock for an hour-long interview.[13] In an October 1, 2014 interview with Music Mayhem Magazine, Foist discussed his new role in Breaking Benjamin and his product endorsements.[14] On March 23, 2015, Breaking Benjamin released 'Failure' - the band's first single in four years performed by Foist and the rest of the new additions to Burnley's revamped lineup, with a full album to be released on June 23, 2015. A Spring Tour also gets underway on April 17th, 2015.
