Soumya sathish started to learn classical dance under the able tutelage of Kalamandalam Sridevi Gopinath at the tender age of five. She was trained in the austere and disciplined tradition of "Gurukula". When she was nine, she had her 'Arangettom' or the first public performance at Aryankavu Bhagavathi Temple in the form of concert. Since then she went to perform as the key dancer in her Guru's institution and gave numerous performances within and outside Kerala. Well trained in the teaching of dance form, Soumya reveals ample enthusiasm and involvement in her profession. Her captivating stage presence, graceful movement and excellent artistic technique ideally depict her talent. She hails from Valluvanad, the land of festivals and exquisite Temple/Ritual art forms, and this definitely honed her artistic skills.

Soumya won the first prize for Mohiniyattom in the Kerala state school youth festival in 1988 and in 1990, she was adjudged the title of "KALATHILAKAM" in the Calicut University youth festival.

Soumya's dance performances have been telecast in Thiruvananthapuram Dooradarshan several times. She founded "BHARATHA KALAMANDIRAM" a dance school solely dedicated to Indian classical dances in Ernakulam and has about 300 students there. Several ofher disciples have brought laurels to the "Guru" and to the institution winning many prizes in dance competitions. She has choreographed, directed and performed Nrithashilpams (Dance Dramas) which were well accepted. Soumya has choreographed and performed following poems of great poets which were greeted with excellent accolades and widely reported in the visual and print media. Sugatha Kumari’s :’ Krishna neeyenne ariyilla’ , Vailopilli’s: ‘Mampazham’, Changampuzha’s: ‘ Kaavyanarthaki’,’ Vasantholsavam’ A.R.Rajaraja Varma’s: ‘Malayala Shaakunthalam’ S.Rameshan Nair’s:’ Ramasagaram’ Soumya has added frills and dimensions to her career by venturing in to the Silver screen and has won admiration for her flawless performance in 'Nivedyam', a wonderful movie by the illustrious script-writer and director Shri.A.K.Lohitadas. Her second film is 'Sultan' by Sriprakash, in which she played an important role and in Tamil film industry Sasikumar’s Sundarapandyan and vishal’s Paandyanadu as hero’s mother roles.

Soumya is happily married to Shri.Sathish Kumar, a computer professional and is settled in Ernakulam where she has carved a niche for herself in the domain of Dance. She is a renowned Dance Teacher and performs Classical dance with her talented group of students. She continues learning dance under Kalamandalam Mohanathulasi.
