Between November 2021 and March 2022, 9 break-ins were reported at various Hindu temples in the Peel region. It is estimated that about $25,000 was stolen as a result of the series of break-ins.[1][2]
In 2022, the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir of Toronto was defaced with anti-Hindu and anti-India graffiti. The incident was condemned by numerous Ontario MPs and Mayor Patrick Brown.
In 2023, 5 Hindu temples along with the Bhagavad Gita Park sign board were vandalized, initial incidents saw graffiti, the content of wich conveyed anti-India and pro Khalistan sentiments, spray painted on the buildings. Later incidents saw the use of Khalistan posters clandestinely placed either within or near the temple's premises.
In April 2023, the leader of the Conservative Party, Pierre Poilievre, condemned the growing number of anti Hindu incidents in the country. In an interview with Prime Asia, he stated: “We have to stop Hinduphobia and nasty comments that are made about Hindus and the vandalism and other violence targeting Hindu Canadians. This is totally unacceptable.” He proposed giving places of worship government funds for security equipment and resources to mitigate instances of vandalism.
