Dr. Cynthia Bir (or "Cindy Bir"[1]) is an Emmy-award-winning professor, researcher, and TV celebrity with degrees in biomedical, mechanical, and biological engineering, and nursing,[2][3] recently relocated to the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California[4][5], from Wayne State University[4][6][2][3] in Detroit, Michigan. She's been a leading engineer of National Geographic's Fight Science, and is the leading engineer and a producer of its spinoff, ESPN's Sport Science.[4][6][7] She's contributed to Dancing with the Stars,[8] will be included in the 2013 Amsterdam World Science Festival,[7] and helped crash a full-size Boeing 727 plane documented by the Discover Channel, a massive 4-year endeavor and one of the biggest staples of her career[9][10].
Dr. Bir's specialty and passion is the prevention of injury from nonlethal forces[6][7], such as impact of rubber bullets and proximity to explosions[9][10]. She's recently begun as a professor of research in the Keck/CSU subdivision of Center for Trauma, Violence, and Injury Preventioon.[4] Dr. Bir has received various scholastic[2][3][7] and secular awards including two emmys[4][6] (one of them for her research work on Sport Science[6]). She's a member of the NATO Human Factors and Medicine panel, [7]dedicated to the furthering of human health and protection through science, technology, and exchange of information.[11]
