The Other Half, formed in 2005, is a Canadian-American rock band fronted by Leslie Carter (vocals). The group is rounded out by Jason Eldon (guitar), Mike Ashton (drums), Sean Smit (bass guitar, backup vocals).

History

[edit]

After Leslie Carters debut album was cancelled by Dreamworks Records, she moved to Toronto, Canada to write and record songs with songwriter Dave Thompson. The collaboration with Thompson and other auditioned artists evolved into a group more fitting of a band than a Leslie Carter solo project. The initial line-up consisted of Thompson (lead guitar), Casey Clowater (rhythm guitar), Paul Davidson (bass guitar), Mike Ashton (drums), and DJ Porter (keys). After mismanagement and a series of lineup changes throughout 2007 and early 2008, The Other Half finally solidified the current lineup as well as a cooperative management team.

Musical Style

[edit]

The sound of The Other Half is uniquely crafted from each musicians' musical background; Leslie, from pop and soul, Mike from heavy metal, Jason from both blues and hardcore, and Sean from indie rock and experimental. This blend of often wildly different musical backgrounds combines to create a very alternative sound, with a heavy pop influence.
