About Stan
[edit]Stan is a resident of New York and is currently in college. On the internet, he likes talking about himself in the third person (such as in this article). He is a resident Wikipedian and eccentric deviant who will fearlessly break out of usual routine to the entertainment of those around him- without being too reckless of course.
Stan's Interests
[edit]Some of Stan's favorite things are music, spicy food, wolves, pirates, robots, technology, nature, drawing, art, bowling, horror, comedy, telling jokes and collecting nutcrackers.
Dislikes Concerning Edits
[edit]The reason Stan has joined Wikipedia is to, as his name states, "Take out the trash". Trash being, lousy edits on Wikipedia articles.
-Examples of Trash-
- People writing as if they think Wikipedia is their own personal blog.
For example, say there was an article for Popeye's Chicken. A good article would describe it's history, menu examples, any recent events regarding the resturant, etc. Very simple and informative. A trashy example of that article would be something like "I love popeyes chicken. It is good chicken. The soda is good too. I went there on my birthday once. My grandma choaked on a chicken bone. Now she's scared of fried food..." Stan finds this problomatic, annoying and uninformative about anything.
- Writing your own personal opinions.
While it is good to hear critical resposes to anything, writing a Wikipedia article with your own, personal opinion is absolutely stupid. For example- say you have a article about Chuck Norris and go on about how his grown popularity from his gritty action movies have made people on the internet turn him into a superhuman god-like figure. The trash equivilant of that would be something like, "Chuck Norris is the greatest person ever. He once kicked God in the throat and then ate a bowlful of kittens. Every day he does a trillion sit-ups every hour, on the hour and can bench-press the universe..." This is trash because Wikipedia is for facts and information, not silly opinions.
- Using 'I' or 'You' in an article.
Surely your english teacher taught you the basics of writing- never address the writer or the reader unless absolutely neccissary. Instead of saying "If you want to moonwalk right, first place your feet together" say "To moonwalk right, one must place their feet together". Use 'one' to address the readers. Unless you're advertising a weight-loss program or writing a biography, don't use 'you' or 'I'.
Stan's Made-Up Words
[edit]In his spare time, Stan will make up words for his own personal use and amusement, hoping to put it into the english language one day. A few examples of them are:
Hisples- The name for those tiny, whispy orange flames seen in a dying fire.
Crashknack- The bizzare liking some people have to break things, or to set something up so it breaks or makes a big mess, such as loosening the top of saltshakers or removing a few screws from a door hinge, and then watching it fall apart in front of them.
Zeppilous- To describe how something is amazing partly or only because of it's enormous size.
