From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Live birth after abortion is a rare unintentional event where in an aborted fetus is born alive instead of dying during the procedure. As the vast majority of abortions are performed well before a fetus reaches viability and there is thus no chance for the fetus to survive due to the abortion there is some debate on if such cases are to be considered preterm births.

Definition[edit]

A live birth after an abortion is not identical with a failed abortion, where the fetus survives and is not expelled from the body during the abortion.
