About me

[edit]
  1. I am a Government contract lawyer, working for a U.S. federal agency. I served in the military as an Air Force Judge Advocate, first on active duty (in the U.S. and overseas) and then Reserve; I retired early from the Reserves in 1997.
  2. I have a smattering of knowledge of science and technology, including computers, but no significant formal training in it. I am an active participant in selected online discussion groups bearing on science, science fiction, and social and political issues. I've been quoted in published articles on Science Fiction, but not because of any special authority on the subject.
  3. My undergraduate degree was in Comparative Literature; my thesis was on the early Arthurian legend and specifically the Historia Regum Britanniae. I developed reasonable working knowledge (to varying degrees) of French, Old French, Latin, Greek and German in my public school and undergraduate training, and later acquired some (not more than tourist level) Spanish, Icelandic, Italian and Romanian.
  4. I invented the word arachnotaxis (note, that site incorrectly refers to me an an "IT expert"!) in response to a request for a word for a list of topics and links posted on a Web page, such as a public Bookmarks list. It hasn't really taken off.
  5. A search for my name on the Web will yield a handful of items relating to me (a couple of legal decisions, comments on some Web sites on political and literary topics, and some book and movie reviews). It will also yield numerous "hits" for people with the same or a similar name including a racing engineer; a competitive swimmer; a realtor; and someone who is active in health care services. I'm none of those.
  6. I have religious, moral, political and other convictions, but I consider them personal, and do not believe they have sufficient impact on anything I compose here that I need to disclose them.
