Shams Tabrez Qasmi: An Islamic Scholar and Journalist[edit]

(Mufti) Shams Tabrez Qasmi is an Islamic Scholar, budding journalist and analyst on day-to-day affairs. He is founder and Chief Editor of illustrious news portal: Millat Times (www.millattimes.com). He has penned about one thousand articles and essays on religious, social and political issues. He is one amongst the few journalist of the new generation taken seriously in India. He is known as a courageous, bold and fearless journalist.[edit]

Birth and Family Background:[edit]

Shams Tabrez Qasmi was born on 20th December 1993 in Raipur, a famous town in District: Sitamarhi of Bihar state of India to Mr. Zakir Husain and Madam Saliha Khatoon. His father Mr. Husain is a social leader and has been vice Mukhya and Ward Member for several terms. His mother, Saliha Khatoon, is a house-wife who played a key role in his upbringing and teaching from the early days.

Learning & Receiving Education:[edit]

After acquiring the basic education of primary level in his hometown, Mr. Qasmi moved to Madrasa Taleemuddin, Birar, in Sitamarhi district. He completed his Hifz Al-Qura’an Al-Kareem (Memorization of all 114 chapters of the Holy Qura’an) just within 11 months under the able teaching of honourable Hafiz Abul Malik (May Allah have mercy on him); while he was just 10-year child. Then in 2002, he took admission in famous and 100-year old seminary of Bihar state, Jamia Arabia Ashraful Uloom in Kanhwan of district: Sitamarhi. In Ashraful Uloom, first he started Hifz Daur (Revision of the Memorized all 114 chapters of the Holy Qura’an). Later on, he was promoted to Idadiyah class (basic of Aalim Course). From Idadiay to the fifth year of Aalim Course, he had been in Ashraful Uloom. He completed his fifth year here in the mid of 2009. At the end of 2009, he travelled to the world known town: Deoband to quench his educational thirst. Lucky he got admission in celebrated Islamic University of Asia, Darul Uloom of Deoband (DUD) following entrance exam wherein thousands of pupils sit in entrance exams just for few seats available for admission. From this famous Islamic University, he completed his Fadhilah (first degree in Islamic Studies) in 2012.

Following Fazilah, he joined the Department of English Language & Literature for Diploma in English Language and Literature (DELL) of the very DUD in 2013. He completed his Diploma in 2014 under the supervision of then Head-teacher of English Department, Dr. Maulana Mohd. Sayeed Anwar Qasmi (Assistant Editor: Islam and Modern Age, JMI, New Delhi) and Maulana Tauqeer Ahmad Qasmi, currently head-teacher of English Department in the DUD. He also completed his Ifta Course from Darul Uloom Al-Hanafiyyah, Deoband.

Following completion of his religious education and the DELL, he moved Delhi, the capital city of India. Being in Delhi, he joined Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), a central University in New Delhi from where he completed his BA and MA Arabic Honours. He also joined the distance learning programme of Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU), Hyderabad and completed MA in Urdu Language & Literature. As he prefers and is interested in learning, even currently he is doing several learning programmes. In this young age, he has participated in several workshops on Journalism, Translation etc.

Starting of his Career:[edit]

Mr. Qasmi is fond of learning, reading and writing from the beginning. When he was in Madrasa, he had been editor of wall magazines. Being a student in the DUD, he wrote columns for Weekly “Aalmi Sahara” and Daily “Azizul Hind”. It was an honour for him that on 6th December 2014, Dr. Aziz Burney published his article on Babri Masjid in his daily newspaper Azizul Hind as editorial. When he reached capital city Delhi, he started his career as the editor of known New Agency: “INS”. In 2015, he was offered to write column for the daily newspaper “Khabren”, New Delhi. He writes weekly column for Daily “Khabren” on the Middle East and Muslim World affairs, which publishes on every Thursday.

Launching Millat Times (News portal):[edit]

Working as editor of the INS, Mr. Qasmi launched a News Portal namely “millattimes.com” in January 2016. Officially it was inaugurated by honorable Maulana Sayyid Muhammad Rabey Hasani Nadavi, President: All India Muslim Personal Law Board in Mumbai. Currently it is most read and visited Urdu news portal from India. Along with Urdu language, Millat Times is also providing its services in English and Hindi languages. Its YouTube Channel is also available, where the ignored issues by mainstream media are discussed. Millattimes.com is working under a registered company: “Millat News Network Private Limited”. Mr. Qasmi is managing director of “Millat News Network Private Limited”.

Mr. Qasmi’s Articles and Essays:[edit]

Mr. Qasmi weekly column: “Pase Aayinah” is published in innumerable newspapers and news portals from India, Pakistan, Germany, America, Britain, Turkey etc. He also writes a daily column under “Khabar Dar Khabar” for his news portal Millattimes.com. Under “Khabar Dar Khabar”, he has completed almost 600 analytic essays. With the same title of “Khabar Dar Khabar”, he also presents some discussions on YouTube Channel of Millattimes.

He also presents an especial programme on the YouTube channel entitled “Khas Mulaaqaat”, where he has interviewed several towering personalities like Mr. Iqbal Ahmad Ansari, ex-Chief Justice of Patna High Court and General Zamiruddin Shah, ex-VC of Aligarh Muslim University to let the viewers know their lives, services and views on several topics. Currently, more than thousand articles of Qasmi have been published. His 10 books including the travelogues of Maldives and the UAE are to be published. The area of his main interest is issues of Indian Muslims, current affairs of the Muslim World and the Middle East.

Attending Conferences:[edit]

Mr. Qasmi visited Maldives in June 2016 on the invitation of the Ministry of Religious Affairs. Being in Maldives, he visited several schools and led Tarawih Salaah as well. In July 2016, he visited the UAE to attend a conference. He has travelled several states and cities of India. Mostly he is invite to attend a conference on Journalism, Islamic Personalities and Religious Issues to present his paper. For his journalistic services, he has been awarded by few organizations.
