Johannes Stroux Johannes Stroux (August 25, 1886 in Haguenau, † 25 August 1954 in Berlin) was a German classical scholar and historian, who worked from 1914 as professor at several universities, including from 1935 until his death at the Humboldt University Berlin. After the refounding of the Prussian Academy of Sciences after the Second World War as German Academy of Sciences in Berlin, later the Academy of Sciences of the GDR, he was its first president from 1946 to 1951. Stroux was from 1946 to 1947 the first elected Rector of the University of Berlin after its reopening.
