One Room (Japanese: ワンルーム) is an ongoing slice of life anime TV series produced by Smiral Animation, characters designed by Kantoku and Hidari. It contains two parts named One Room and Room Mate respectively that orient to different genders of audience[1]. Each episode runs for 4 minutes. A sequel to Makura no Danshi and Ani Tore! EX[2], One Room is another so-called "virtual anime" by SMIRAL, which features the audience as the protagonist, who is never voiced but whose lines can be infered by non-protagonists', most like a galgame.

Plot

In the original work of One Room three different girls visit the protagonist's apartment ("room") one by one and make up their story respectively, while in Room Mate three young men live in a condominium instead.

The protagonist is male, anonymous and not voiced, and he never appears, but most scenes are captured through his view.

A high school student in her senior year. She leaves Hokkaido for Tokyo to prepare for an examination (not pointed out, but could be, the National Center Test for University Admissions), happening to acknowledge that the protagonist lives next to her sister's apartment. She asks him to help with studying and eventually confesses her love to the protagonist.

  • Natsuki Momohara (桃原 奈月, Momohara Natsuki)

The protagonist's younger sister. Caring about him working alone in the capital, she comes from their hometown and guides her brother's life during the summer vacation.

The protagonist's childhood sweetheart. She is a 21-year-old singer-songwriter who once performed live yet not successful. After picking up with the protagonist, she works part-time in Tokyo when sticking to her musician dream.

Yui starts to receive tutorship from the protagonist. The next day the area is out of water supply, so Yui has to go to a public bath with the protagonist. Afterwards she requests the protagonist teach her more and tell her more about Tokyo.

Yui cooks for the protagonist when going on with her revision, only to face that she merely gets a B in a mock exam. She accidently discovers his porn magazine after reading the album of his. Though embarressed, that night Yui sleeps at the desk in the protagonist's coat.

The protagonist presents Yui with an amulet, who later drops by the protagonist's apartment joyfully telling him that she passed the examination. They take a walk by the cherry blossoms where Yui confesses her appreciation and affection to the protagonist.

Natsuki, the protagonist's younger sister arrives at his room to take care of him. Realizing that he is leading an otaku life when out of office hours, she comes up with a whiteboard and put her advice down. She then starts serving him and behaving tsundere.

The protagonist comes home from work exhausted before Natsuki offers a massage, amid which she admits that she's not engaged in a romance. The next day they watch TV together and enjoy themselves during a remote controller fight. At night the protagonist introduces Natsuki to a firework show and she thanks him for his years of hard work.
7"Natsuki Momohara Boggles with Embarrassment"

Natsuki is doing housework when she finds the porn magazine that Yui once discovered. She takes a shower at home only to find the shampoo is run out, asking the protagonist to bring some in. He involuntarily peeks at her body leading to Natsuki bursting into tears. The protagonist comes home late that night suffering from a hangover and passes out. The next day Natsuki tells the protagonist that she is going to remain for longer as she's not sure that he will stay safe and sane, only to be told that he wants her to leave.
8"Natsuki Momohara Cannot Confide"

Natsuki becomes clear that her brother feels ashamed to live with her support, and she comforts him nicely. The siblings walk on a bridge at dusk and Natsuki asks the protagonist about his romance. They sleep together that night. The next day the protagonist sees his sister off by Shinkansen and she gives the final advice en route. The protagonist returns home alone late that day, turns on the light and reads Natsuki's final advice with a postscript -- "Keep in touch with me. Cheers, my bro!"
9"Moka Aoshima Still Remembers"

Moka Aoshima, childhood sweetheart of the protagonist invites him to her house and calls back memories of the days they spent together. She admits that she never encountered a big success in becoming a welcomed singer, then cheers both herself and the protagonist up.

Moka congratulates the protagonist for his novel's adaption, while her demo is rejected by the director due to her lack of romantic experience, which she later attempts to "gain" with the protagonist by mocking, but in vain. Moka thinks of giving up; however the protagonist tells her not to lose heart. She eventually picks herself up and promises to continue working.
11"Moka Aoshima Becomes Aware"

Moka once more practises singing, this time in rain. The protagonist helps her out, but she catches a cold. He found out that no company would sign a contract with Moka and comforts her. After accompanying for a night she tells the protagonist that she decides to quit and go home.
12"Moka Aoshima Sings Aloud"

Moka gives up singing and takes a train back to their hometown. The protagonist, however, catches up with her and presents her with his novel draft, filled with comforting words. He manages to express his love to Moka with the lines, ending in their living together from the next spring, indicating they are married.

Every character's theme music comes at the end of their respective episodes, for example "A Clover Waiting for Spring" is played at the end of episodes 1–4.
