MICHAEL SCHWAB and DAN SCHWAB[edit]

CO-PRESIDENTS, D&H DISTRIBUTING

Michael Schwab (born 1963) and Daniel “Dan” Schwab (born 1968) are brothers who currently serve as co-presidents of D&H Distributing. D&H is a family-owned, North American technology distribution company founded by their grandfather in 1918, now headquartered in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. [1] Dan and Michael assumed the roles of co-presidents in 2008. Both executives took on their positions as co-presidents at the onset of the 2008 recession, leading the company through the economic downturn and on to experience many consecutive profitable quarters in the next 10+ years. [2] In 2019, Michael and Dan opened a new two-campus D&H Distributing headquarters along with their father Israel “Izzy” Schwab, who currently serves as CEO in Emeritus. [3] As a result of the merger of IT distributors Tech Data and Synnex in March of 2021, D&H will become the third-largest broadline distributor in this market. [4]

Michael celebrated his 30th anniversary and Dan marked his 25th anniversary with D&H in 2020. [5] Together they have grown the company to more than $4 billion in revenues as of late 2020, ranking #103 on the Forbes list of America’s Largest Private Companies in 2020. [6]

CAREERS[edit]

Both Michael and Dan are graduates of The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. Michael Schwab went on to attain a law degree from Villanova University in 1985. He served in a position with accounting firm Arthur Andersen prior to joining D&H. [7]

This was in accordance with the D&H “Family Constitution,” an agreement requiring founding family members to work outside the company before joining the ranks. [8] Michael began his D&H career in 1989 as an outside sales representative in the Philadelphia area. He joined the corporate group in Harrisburg, PA, as Director of Merchandising in 1991. Dan Schwab graduated from Wharton in 1987. He originally worked for The May Department Store Co.’s Lord & Taylor in Manhattan as an assistant buyer. He joined D&H Distributing in 1995 as director of the company’s education division. [9] By the year 2000, under Dan’s leadership, D&H became the number one distributor of technology to the college bookstore marketplace. Michael was promoted to Vice President of Purchasing in 1999, where he drove initiatives for D&H’s staff of product managers, expanded from an original group of two personnel into a team of more than 50. Dan was promoted to Vice President of Marketing at D&H Distributing in 2001, where his initiatives contributed to the company’s continued growth of more than 10% each year during his tenure. [10]

Both executives were integral to major D&H manufacturer negotiations, including with Microsoft, Cisco [11] Dell, HP, and Lenovo. [12] D&H Distributing also currently maintains partner relationships with Acer, ASUS, Aruba, Brother, Dell, Google, Intel, Lexmark, Logitech, LG, NETGEAR, Samsung, Western Digital, and others. As co-presidents, Dan and Michael made inroads for the company in emerging areas such as cloud services and XaaS (Everything as a Service), managed services, mobility, wireless connectivity, remote work and learning, home automation, and the emerging eSports and ProAV markets. D&H now has distribution centers in Harrisburg, PA; Atlanta, GA; Chicago, IL; and Fresno CA in the U.S.; plus in Vancouver, British Columbia; and Brampton, Ontario, in Canada. [13]
