The X-CEO

[edit]

When Musk announced Linda Yaccarino as his successor as CEO, editors discussed whether to continue covering his influence on the platform in Twitter under Elon Musk, or to restrict it to his tenure as CEO. Concerns were raised by Jtbobwaysf about avoiding content duplication with the main Twitter article and deciding what updates should be included. Horse Eye's Back argued that the purpose of the article was to cover significant developments related to Musk's leadership, as indicated by 'under' in the title.

To gather wider community input, a request for comment (RfC) discussed whether the article on Twitter during Elon Musk's tenure should adhere to the stricter standards of biographies of living persons (BLP), given its focus on Musk. BLP guidelines, which require careful sourcing for content about living individuals, were under debate whether they applied to the entire article, or just the parts mentioning Musk. There was also concern about the potential for content forks, and how to handle overlapping information with the main Twitter article, particularly regarding sensitive allegations and the reliability of sources. The discussion was procedurally closed by Dsprc, noting that BLP policies should apply to the article due to its focus on Musk.

G10 deadname redirects

[edit]
 • Db-g10
 • I'm nominating this under criterion G10 as I don't believe it's appropriate to draw attention to it with a RfD for this matter, considering it pertains to the WP:DEADNAME of a living individual. This deadname is not mentioned elsewhere on Wikipedia. WP:RFD#DELETE #3 states "The redirect is offensive or abusive, (Speedy deletion criterion G10 and G3 may apply.)" and deadnaming a trans person is considered both offensive and abusive.
 • I'm nominating this under criterion G10 as I don't believe it's appropriate to initiate a RfD for this matter, considering it pertains to a WP:DEADNAME of a living individual which is already under strict oversight sanction on Wikipedia. This deadname is not mentioned elsewhere on Wikipedia. WP:RFD#DELETE #3 states "The redirect is offensive or abusive, (Speedy deletion criterion G10 and G3 may apply.)" and deadnaming a trans person is considered both offensive and abusive.

To provide additional information, a copyeditor for The Signpost has included Doug Weller's response a few weeks after the RfA closed:

@HouseBlaster I'd completely forgotten about this. I'm not sure why I didn't respond to your earlier response. It's an excellent question. I don't have an answer. I do know that if I had a lot of friends living near me, I would want to have a party before I died. I remember seeing a movie where a Shakespearean actress who was dying did this and I thought it was a great idea. But I don't know how to transfer it to Wikipedia. Do you have any suggestions?

Ideas

[edit]

The Signpost ideas

[edit]
 • 01:14, 7 July 2024 (UTC) – Signpost: namespace. The Signpost has long outgrown the Wikipedia: namespace. It is a walled garden that is isolated from everything else in the Wikipedia: namespace.
 • 01:15, 7 July 2024 (UTC) – When the webpage of a piece loads, similar to a section redirect, jump down to have The Signpost header appear at the top. The reader can scroll up to view the Wikipedia header if they wish.
 • 01:16, 7 July 2024 (UTC) – Column titled 'Gazette' which includes all of the recent newsletters (such as Administrators' newsletter and The Bugle). I believe the Admin newsletter is updated monthly, so if there are two issues of The Signpost in the same month, it'll be the same in both.
 • 01:18, 7 July 2024 (UTC) – Retire signpost.news website as an unnecessary duplicate. Keep the domain and mask the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wikipedia_Signpost part, so links to Wikipedia can also be masked as https://en.signpost.news/2024-01-01/Discussion_report.
 • 01:21, 7 July 2024 (UTC) – Create usergroup 'Signposter' and restrict viewing of some Signpost pages to writers of The Signpost. I believe this is already technically possible in MediaWiki. It is confusing to me why the pieces are public before they are published.
 • 01:56, 7 July 2024 (UTC) – Create scroll subscription template by series. Readers have different interests. Like on my userpage (which is a hodgepodge mess) those who subscribe to 'hoaxes' and/or 'arbitration' will only see those pieces in their template.
