User:SvenAERTS/Low Greenhouse Gas Economy

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Low Greenhouse Gas Economy is a term competing with the dominant term Low Carbon Economy. Low Greenhouse Gas Economy has the advantage is more logical and correct than Low Carbon Economy.

  • Carbon is referring to the atomic element "Carbon". But when considering the list of 6 Greenhouse Gases, 3 have no carbon atom in them:
    • water vapor = H2O, there is no Carbon Atom in this Greenhouse Gas
    • carbon dioxide = CO2, there is a Carbon Atom in this Greenhouse Gas
    • methane = CH4, there is a Carbon Atom in this Greenhouse Gas
    • nitrous oxide = N2O, there is no Carbon Atom in this Greenhouse Gas
    • ozone = O3, there is no Carbon Atom in this Greenhouse Gas
    • chlorofluorocarbons, there are Carbon Atoms in this Greenhouse Gas

Even further, there are a lot more Carbon atom holding products that have nothing to do with Greenhouse Gasses, adding even more to the confusion.

  • The word Carbon is shorter than Greenhouse Gas, but for this there seems to be a consensus to use the letter combination: CO2e. CO2e only has 4 characters, Carbon has 6 characters. CO2e stands for CO2-equivalent gasses, which stands for greenhouse gasses and indicates to their global warming potential as if the gas considered were recalculated to the relative contribution of CO2 and with CO2 equal to 1.
