Karthe Muthiaha
[edit]Karthe is an Indian politician from Tamil Nadu[1], India. He is currently the State secretary of Vanniyar[2] Sangam and Convener of Pattali Makkal Katchi[3] for seven district (Salem, Namakkal, Erode, Karur, Tirupur, Coimbatore and Nilgiri) He was elected to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly in 2001[4] from Salem. Tamil Nadu.
Early life and education:
[edit]Muthiaha Karthe was born on 17 September 1968 in Salem to Muthiaha and Devagi. His father was a Fishing inspector in Hogenakkal and Rameshwaram and was one of the partners of Ponkumar mines. Karthe did his schooling in Bharathi Vidyalaya and Andersons in Salem. He completed Bachelors's in Political Science at Annamalai University.
Political Career:
[edit]Karthe joined Vanniyar Sangam in 1986. Making him one of senior most member of the party, with active presence of over 35 years. He was part of the 1987 Vanniyar reservation[5] agitation demanding MBC status for Vanniyars led by Dr S Ramadoss[6].
In 1987 he became the Salem district secretary of Pattali Makkal Katchi. In 1989 he was announced as the Member of Parliament candidate, but due to the eligibility age barrier, he could not contest the elections.
In 1989 he along with Dr. S Ramadoss. Dalit Ezhumalai[7], Sa. Subramiyam and 8 others met V.P Singh[8] the Prime Minister of India and Zail Singh[9] to appreciate their efforts in providing the reservation. Overtime period he was arrested a lot of times over the reservation protests and was locked in Salem Central jail.
Karthe was elected as the Member of the Municipal Corporation [10](MC) from Salem 6 zone, being the youngest MC in the state at the age of 27. Later in 2001, he was elected as the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA)[11] from Salem 2 constituency again being one of the youngest MLA. In 2011 he contested in Edappadi Member of the Legislative Assembly and lost to former Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami[12]. He is one the share holders of Makkal Tholaikaatchi[13] and Director of Dinapuratchi daily newspaper.
On 24 November 2021, he was appointed as the State Vanniyar Sangam secretary and Convener of Pattali Makkal Katchi[3] for seven district (Salem, Namakkal, Erode, Karur, Tirupur, Coimbatore and Nilgiri).
