About me

[edit]

My first name is Thomas and I live in Zurich in Switzerland. I studied electrical engineering at the ETH, the Swiss technical University.

At Gramar School (Sekundarschule) I learnt my first French, at college (Gymnasium) English and Italian. The subject Swedish was started at Zurich University when I did not find a course for the Finnish language. My Italian is rather rusty, but I can communicate. My Finnish is getting more use.

My mothertongue is Swiss German. This language is, as a matter of fact, just spoken; there is no offical writing standard. So if I write I write German, with some words special to Switzerland, Helvetism.

Hobbies

[edit]
  • Reading - I love to read in German, English, Swedish, French.
  • Cycling - my cycle is my means of transport, with the recumbant I cycle to work but used it for tours to England and to Sweden.
  • travelling - I was in Sweden and Finland often. But I love rambling in Switzerland too, climbing peaks in the Alps, rambling on the pathes of the Walser.
  • Railways
  • dancing - I practiced folk dance in a Finnish group.
  • Friends
  • Swiss German - I am member of the club who does research and publications on my mothertongue

How I got started on Wikipedia

[edit]

Looking for the calorific value of fuel in Google I found Wikipedia about 2002. I love the links to similar articles in other languages; thus I can click on the link to Finnish before discussing a matter with my friends in Tampere.
