Terry started his musical life in an originals band all the way back in 1982 called Indifference, there are still have recordings of this band and one or two of the songs still survive in Terry’s contemporary set list, albeit having undergone several revisions.  After this band folded Terry joined a retro rock band called Sigma Fleet briefly, but as the other band members (particularly the other guitarist) were so loud, he could not compete with the levels of volume and decided to leave.

Around this time Terry began guitar lessons with Alan Pinches and learned music theory, reading musical notation, improvisation and scales.  He encouraged Terry to join professional bands and play for a living.  Terry’s first covers band was an Elvis tribute, which was a lot of fun and lasted for a couple of years. Terry also joined a light dinner jazz band called "The Blue heaven Dance band' this was an education in a different style of music than he had been accustomed to.

Terry part formed a pop / rock trio called 'Around Midnight"  they were regulars at several pub venues around Tower Bridge in London, this lasted again for about three years, Terry was starting to play in bands where notation sight reading was essential, Terry had been the guitarist since around 1997 with the Tony Strudwick Orchestra and still does the odd gig with them now and again.  Terry again part formed another little covers band, similiar to around midnight but this time as a four piece with a keyboard player who came up with the great name of "Mr Bus", this lasted again for about three years but as he was getting more and more offers to play in professional situations and on the cruise ships and so it was time once again to move on.

Terry had a residency on a holiday camp in Cornwall in 1998, then another in 2000, in between seasons he was playing with all the usual pub and club bands including "Phat Medallion" a seventies disco style band and several ABBA tributes with whom he still play gigs fairly regularly.  In 2005 he became the resident guitarist with a travelling circus orchestra in Denmark, Cirkus Benneweis and again in 2006, this led on to Terry being recommended for work on the cruise ships and was resident guitarist with P&O cruises from 2006 till 2009.

In 2010 Terry did another danish circus tour, this time with Cirkus Arena and in 2011 was in the resident band on the North sea ferries between Hull and Rotterdam with P&O again.  There was also a brief stint on Fred Olsen for about four months. Since then Terry has continued to play live in various pub and club bands, The Zen Relics, Echoes of Pink Floyd, ( a Pink Floyd tribute who played the conference room at Wembley Arena the same night Roger Waters performed the Wall) The Mystery Men, The Blox (an Ian Dury tribute) and many solo acoustic performances.

Recently Terry has returned to writing his own material, he performed these songs at 69X events hosted by Mandy Willis and a few other events including the Vdub festival on the isle Of Wight where Terry also also plays bass with "The Stone Heroes". Terry Finch continues to write and record his own music, some of these recordings can be heard on a recently released E.P. containing 4 songs, the E.P. is entitled "Terry Finch Unknown Artist"
