Art Institute image[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Artinstitute.JPG. I notice it currently doesn't have an image copyright tag. Could you add one to let us know its copyright status? (You can use gfdl if you release it under the GFDL, or fairuse if you claim fair use, etc.) If you don't know what any of this means, just let me know where you got the images and I'll tag them for you. Thanks so much, Quadell (talk) (help)[[]] 17:28, Oct 22, 2004 (UTC)

Hi Lorax, if you can tell the community where the fair use images you upload came from, that would be helpful. Otherwise, we have no way of knowing whether the photographer meant for people to use his/her image freely, to promote the topic. -- user:zanimum

About the Music video project[edit]

Hey Lorax. My name is Alejandro Vesga and a while back I wanted to join the Music video project. But I found that there is no progress and no list of members of the project. Is it just you? Because if that's the case, maybe the project should be shut down and we can edit music video articles on our own. Also, there's a message on the talk page I think you should see.

I know Kevin and the Videoville project, and personally I think there is some valuable information there, but I wouldn't go as far as to make a migration. Anyway, drop me a line and we'll see what we can do.

Ted Stevens[edit]

Hi, could you provide a link citing Ted Stevens as NOT being a pro-choice politician? Thanks. Jarfingle 08:24, 14 March 2006 (UTC)

I'm not The Lorax, I just happened to be looking at their talk page by happinstance, but you might try: http://www.issues2000.org/states/AK_Abortion.htm NARAL gives Ted a 21% pro-choice rating.

Category:Pro-whaling nations[edit]

I think this information should be stored in a list instead. The issue is too marginal for most countries to justify a category. It also sets a bad precedent, and invites categories for countries that allow smoking in public buildings, countries that use the death penalty, and for number of other controversial issues. A list collects the same information without any turning the category system into a pillory. --Latebird 21:00, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

An Inconvenient Truth[edit]

An Inconvenient Truth has the semi-protection tag, but somehow anonymous users are still able to edit the page. How is this possible? —chair lunch dinner™ (talk) 03:58, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

I've contacted Admins to help with the problem. The lorax 04:23, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
(I'm not the Lorax, but...) I think people sometimes fail to realize that only administrators can protect or semi-protect a page. The admin who "flips the protection switch" then edits in the appropriate template so we mere mortals can see what has been done, but the template has nothing to do with applying the actual protection itself. (Lorax: Please feel free to remove my comment here if you wish.)

Image:Monsterthickburger.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Monsterthickburger.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

 1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add Replaceable fair use disputed, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
 2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Daniel Case 07:00, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

Unspecified source for Image:Inconvenienttruth.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Inconvenienttruth.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the GFDL-self tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Image copyright problem with Image:Melgibsonpublicitypic.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Melgibsonpublicitypic.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: TemplateName.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. (Netscott) 19:13, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

Unspecified source for Image:Snick.gif[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Snick.gif. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then you need to specify who owns the copyright, please. If you got it from a website, then a link to the website where it was taken from with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the GFDL-self tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. Speedy deletion of Image:Aninconvenienttruth.jpg[edit]

A tag has been placed on Image:Aninconvenienttruth.jpg, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

CSD I1 of Image:Poster of inconvenient truth.jpg

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet very basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add hangon on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Berserkerz Crit 13:44, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

Do not remove no rationale templates without fixing the problem.[edit]

Each fair use image must have a fair use rationale, or it may be speedily deleted. If you do not provide one, the Wikimedia Foundation is not willing to fight a fair use battle in case the original copyright holder wants to take the image down. The burden of creating the rationale falls on the uploader of the non-free image. If you continue to remove the template listing the file as having no rationale without providing a sufficient fair use rationale, you can get blocked because that is avoidant vandalism according to Wikipedia:Vandalism#Types of vandalism. Jesse Viviano 14:47, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

Thank you very much for fixing the rationale problem. Jesse Viviano 19:42, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

Bad fair use of Image:Pariscrying.jpg[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:Pariscrying.jpg, by 205.210.252.31, another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:Pariscrying.jpg is an image with a clearly invalid fair use tag; or it is an image that fails some part of the non-free content criteria and the uploader has been given 48 hours' notification (for images uploaded after 2006-07-13) or seven days' notification (for images uploaded before that date). (CSD I7).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Image:Pariscrying.jpg, please affix the template hangon to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Image:Pariscrying.jpg itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. --Android Mouse Bot 2 00:19, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Pariscrying.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Pariscrying.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Fair use rationale for Image:Cruiseonoprah.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Cruiseonoprah.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Ilse@ 21:38, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

I have tagged Image:Virtualinsanityvideo.JPG as no rationale, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. Replaceable fair use Image:Kfeddumpedbytext.png[edit]

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Kfeddumpedbytext.png. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

 1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add , without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.

Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. Britney Spears MTV awards performance[edit]

Hello. It is obvious that having "see also: Britney Spears performace at 2007 MTV Video Music Awards" in the Return to Music section is not necessary. So start with, the Britney Spears performance at 2007 MTV Video Music Awards article is up for speedy deletion.

Also, in the Britney Spears article, you don't see these following:

 • see also: Britney Spears's kiss with Madonna at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards
 • see also: Britney Spears's performance at the 2004 Grammy Awards
 • see also: Britney Spears's performance at the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards
 • see also: Britney Spears's Dream Within a Dream Tour
 • see also: The Onyx Hotel Tour
 • see also: Britney Spears lip sync at the M+M Tour

All of those above are NOT included in the article because they are NOT noteworthy enough to have its own "see also" title, and Her performance at the 2007 MTV awards is no exceptions either. Although I would suggest that in this sentence in the article: Her performance at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards on 9 September 2007 from the Palms Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas was widely criticized due to Spears's seeming confusion and lack of energy on stage. You can wikilink the word "performance" to that article. Oidia (talk) 04:12, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Image:Popup.ogg[edit]

A tag has been placed on Image:Popup.ogg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding hangon to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. —Remember the dot (talk) 21:53, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

Image:Peeweedvdcover.jpg[edit]

I have tagged Image:Peeweedvdcover.jpg as a disputed use of non-free media, because there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please clarify your fair use rationale on the image description page. Thank you. Project FMF (talk) 15:40, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Peeweedvdcover.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading Image:Peeweedvdcover.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 16:34, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Image:MonaLisamarginscribble.jpg[edit]

A tag has been placed on Image:MonaLisamarginscribble.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I8 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is available as a bit-for-bit identical copy on the Wikimedia Commons under the same name, or all references to the image on Wikipedia have been updated to point to the title used at Commons.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding hangon to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Gary King (talk) 06:39, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

Attempted rumor-mongering[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions, including your edits to Larry C. Johnson. However, please be aware of Wikipedia's policy that biographical information about living persons must not be libelous. Any controversial statements about a living person added to an article, or any other Wikipedia page, must include proper sources. Thank you. --Calton | Talk 09:01, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

Calton, I feel like you're accusing me of spreading the ugly rumors about MO.

That would be because, well, you are. Period/full stop.

Johnson has repeatedly posted these rumors on his blog to attack Obama and it should be acknowledged, especially as he is mentioned by name on Obama's Fight the Smears website.

Why? Of what possible importance is this to JOHNSON's biography? Unless he's in court over them or there's ACTUAL major media coverage (as opposed to stuff scraped up to meet the literal letter of WP:RS -- and, of course, which only document that the rumors exist -- of no real import whatsoever.

How is mentioning this in his bio "rumor-mongering" or giving credence to these rumors? The Swift Boat Veterans for Truth article includes their allegations AND includes responses by Kerry and/or supporters.

Reality check #1: those particular ugly rumors were WELL-covered in major media
Reality check #2: those particular ugly rumors gave rise to a well-known, widely recognized, and widely used slang term, "swiftboating".
Reality check #3: WP:OTHERCRAPEXISTS. Really, you're not even trying.
And the "sanitization" argument, really, isn't even worth responding to. --Calton | Talk 12:09, 15 June 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Inthesetimescover.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Inthesetimescover.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:27, 21 June 2008 (UTC)

Image:Radiantbaby.png[edit]

I have tagged Image:Radiantbaby.png as no rationale, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. If you believe the image to be acceptable for fair use according to Wikipedia policy, please provide a rationale explaining as much, in accordance with the fair use rationale guideline, on the image description page. Some examples can be found at Wikipedia:Use rationale examples. Please also consider using article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags/Non-free. Image copyright problem with Image:Grist-logo.gif[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Grist-logo.gif. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

 • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
 • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Please do not mark major edits as minor[edit]

Please be careful not to mark edits which contribute content as minor. This edit should not have been marked as a minor edit. And, please add an appropriate edit summary to your contributions.

By the way, did you notice that the statement that you were expounding upon with yet another source already had 4 references? Isn't that enough? Thanks, WTucker (talk) 00:10, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Trippin.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Trippin.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. License tagging for File:ObamaLogo.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:ObamaLogo.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 02:05, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

AfD nomination of Sarah Palin Interviews with Katie Couric[edit]

I have nominated Sarah Palin Interviews with Katie Couric, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Sarah Palin Interviews with Katie Couric. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. I would strongly suggest voting on this page.

Its nice to be vindicated[edit]

Couric got the Cronkite award for journalistic excellence for her interviews of Palin- a "Special Achievement for National Impact on the 2008 Campaign" no less. The judges said it was a "defining moment in the 2008 presidential campaign". As you said that yourself about three months ago[1], I thought you might like to know that the judges have had the sense to agree with you.[2] KillerChihuahua?!? 01:05, 11 March 2009 (UTC)
