Dano-Dutch War (1542-1543)[edit]
Emperor Charles V of the Holy Roman Empire supported Frederick II, Elector Palatine for the Danish crown, and Denmark participated in the war on the side of France in 1541[1]. A year later, Denmark declared war on the Netherlands, at that time under Charles's rule. The only military actions of Denmark, were to close The Sound for Dutch ships.[2]Altho a Danish fleet were stationed on the coast of the Netherlands, it never made any military operations.[3] On 23 May 1544 the Treaty of Speryer was signed between Denmark and the Holy Roman Empire.[4][5]
