About Me

[edit]

Third year design student at the University of Hull at the Scarborough Campus. Currently studying a BA in Design for Digital Media.

I am a novice contributor to wikipedia as this is my first time using it, however, I am writing my articles in the same way I would write a marked essay, referencing my sources/quotes, being unbiased and using well constructed explanations.

I am not an expert on this particular subject field but I am using reputable sources for this assignment (which is explained below).

Past Assignments

[edit]

Interaction, engagement and experience

In this assignment I am creating a page for the Machinima archive available at http://archive.org/details/machinima.

Project update: Notability has been a key problem as the subject area doesn't really demand it's own section as not a lot can be said about it as a singular subject. It heavily links with others' work. I have decided to create a small subsection to add to another students piece.

I also got a badge for asking a question in the tea rooms. That was fun!

I also left some messages on some talk pages, but not many people have replied. Most of these were left on Monday and I thought a 3 day grace period was ample time before just being bold and adding to the article page without consent, but also without someone challenging me first. (Being polite is definitely the best policy here.)

Going to add more to the article tomorrow, hopefully there is more content as most sources at the moment seem to just talk about the other subject areas within Machinima, it would be nice to add little edits to each of those pages but the risk of clashing with another editor in the group would be unproductive. --Tomswainson (talk) 02:00, 15 February 2013 (UTC)

Project update: I have uploaded all of my content to Wikipedia now after letting pages know I was going to make the changes. I have also being talking a lot to another editor in the class, Rosie Goundrill, but the talk page is a little slow compared to social network messaging, therefore only fragments of our conversations can be found on our talk pages. Other editors still haven't got back in touch with me, and I didn't get a reply in the tea house for my query at the beginning of the week, either that or the reply didn't have a talk back tag or I wasn't notified there was a reply. Fortunately my article structure changed so the question became redundant anyway.

I have tried following the styles of the articles my section has been placed into and keep relying on style guides and other tutorials to make sure I follow wikipedia article conventions (and the 5 pillars). --Tomswainson (talk) 23:08, 17 February 2013 (UTC)

Current Assignment

[edit]

Psychology of Internet Behaviour

Project update: Because I have already done an assessment on wikipedia, I decided to try and help everyone else with their editing as well as editing the article my group were working on. It was important to stress the importance of following the 5 pillars of Wikipedia and help people deal with the clunkiness of the talk pages, which sometimes were hard to grasp.

Project update: I have been helping various members of the class understand some of the problems surrounding articles as well as editing the article my group has been working on, just cleaning up the article and adding page links. --Tomswainson (talk) 21:34, 8 March 2013 (UTC)
