Kitchen Video System (KVS) also known as Kitchen Display System (KDS).

Kitchen Display System is simply described a system that displays Orders on the Display in Kitchen. It basically replaces the traditional one-way Kitchen Printer by Monitor with interactive order management system.

History

1st Gen KDS

Before

KDS was first developed in mid 90s and was widely been used in American Fast Food. Programmed in 2nd-gen POS exporting screen by Video Port, hanging CRT Monitor on ceiling to display kitchen orders. With receiving orders from front counter POS system, it displays Orders with preparation time and changes different colors in different order status.

KDS is installed with industrial-grade standalone controller device and keypad, displaying orders on LCD monitor, or OS integrated display device with touch screen such as tablets. Besides Fast Food, it is also widely been used in Casual Dinning and Fine Dinning Restaurants.

KDS is designed with 2 roles, Expeditor or Expo which shows whole orders, where Prep station display menu items related to that department only.

In this example, Expo display everything of the order where Burger Station, Fries Station and Drinks Station display items related to their own department respectively.





Fine Dining

Similar to Fast Food, Fine Dining is much more concern of course and cook time, which means the time that item is required to prepare.

Above Fine Dinning Example shows how the course management and cook time works. With this features, Servers travel forth and back POS side broad to click "Fire Up" will no longer required because course management has done for you.
