Hot Lava is a 2019 platformer game developed and published by Klei Entertainment. Announced in 2016, it was developed by Mark Laprairie before he was hired by Klei. It is primarily based on the children's game with the same name; sharing elements such as [insert summary of gameplay here]. Gameplay[edit]

Hot Lava is a first-person platformer game.[1][2][3][4] Based on the children's game,[5] it involves the player controlling an action figure to navigate rooms without touching the lava-covered floor.[2] While moving, the player character can jump, slide, and swing.[1] Highlighted objects, including ropes and poles, can be interacted with.[3]

Development[edit]

Mark Laprairie initially developed Hot Lava in 2015 before it was bought by Klei Entertainment.[2] In 2016, Hot Lava was open for beta testing,[1][6] and at the time, the game was planned to release for PC.[5] It is Klei Entertainment's first 3D game.[1]

The game has a "mixed or average" rating on Metacritic.[9]

The game was nominated for "Adventure" and "Multiplayer/Competitive Game" at the 2020 Webby Awards.[13]
