For our Wikipedia project this semester, we will be covering an overview, causes, functions—such as neural protection and repair, scar formation, regulation of inflammation, biological mechanisms, beneficial and detrimental effects, novel therapeutic techniques, and notable cases of the process of astrogliosis in neurological pathologies.

Overview[edit]

Astrogliosis is an increase in the number of neuroglial cells with fibrous or protoplasmic processes frequently observed in an irregular area adjacent to degenerative lesions.

Causes[edit]

We will address the various events that induce astrogliosis.

We will address, under these subtitles, the various occurrences following astrogliosis.

The beneficial and detrimental consequences of astrogliosis will be discussed here. After a spinal cord injury, astrogliosis occurs to curtail and repair the initial damage, but eventually can have some adverse effects as well.

Division of Work[edit]

As a group, we have decided to meet once a week, every week to regroup and talk about our progress in research and edits to the Wikipedia project. We will all cooperatively research and contribute to each section of the table of contents (as previously listed). We will then separately provide more thorough research and information to the one specific technique and pathology. We are using GoogleDocs to share developing notes and research but will be writing directly on the Wikipedia page to allow other users to contribute or edit as necessary.
