Hi. While this user clearly isn't working cooperatively removing NPOV tags is explicitly not vandalism. Indeed, repeatedly re-adding such tags is edit warring and may be subject to a 3RR block. When a user reverts like this without responding to your efforts to discuss I would suggest requesting page protection and then following dispute resolution procedures if that doesn't get them talking. --CBD 11:58, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi Ultimus, I just thought I'd add that in my experience the best way to deal with POV situations like this, especially on a relatively small and undisputed article, is to be bold and edit the page to neutralise the POV yourself, rather than slap a tag on. If you do this piecemeal, whilst using the talk page, you will find it often then turns into a process of negotiation (rather than conflict) with the original author, who, more often than not doesn't quite realise what the objection is or how to fix it. At Wikipedia they call this consensus :-) -- zzuuzz (talk) 15:42, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
Yeah but sadly, there is the pesky little notion of WP:3RR that I'm not willing to push my luck with... --UlTiMuS - ( T | C ) 16:54, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
Oh absolutely, which is why I mentioned a gradual process - you don't have to undo their edits every time, or even at all, and if you improve it each time you will often find that they will not undo yours. The final result may well turn out completely different to how you both envisioned it, but you will end up both being satisfied by it. Anyway, you are right to be wary of 3RR - like I say it is best avoided by not reverting at all. -- zzuuzz (talk) 17:14, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

I removed the stadia because they clutter the table. I wonder whether somebody puts, say, goalscorer names there some days. But I really messed up with the flags, probably because of an edit conflict. Conscious 21:05, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

Firefox yes, Google toolbar no. I think it has something to do with the edit conflict I run into while doing the edit. Conscious 21:13, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
I don't think it's relevant to me, because I don't use the Google toolbar. Conscious 21:18, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

What is an "NN"?

[edit]

I just started writing a page about my late brother, and haven't finished it yet, but thought I would establish a few sentences at first. Certainly, it could be better-written. But I thought it would wind up as a "stub" that I could add to later, a few paragraphs at a time. I guess not. Kindly explain the issue to me.

I noticed you prod'ed this article, and the original author removed the tag. She's a novice, so I'd like to cut her some slack. She's also got more material to add to the article, and I'm going to work with her on notability. Once we sort that out, I'll give her my two bits on notability and see if it's something we should keep. This particular editor is well plugged into the world of comedy (i.e., she knows a lot of famous folks), so I'm hoping that if we hold her hand through her learning curve, she'll turn out to be a really great editor. At any rate, I'd appreciate any patience and assistance you can extend to this editor. She's making some good faith efforts here, and the quality of her work is already going up. Conne River as an article

[edit]

I don't really want to make Conne River an article, but the name is the official name for the community (ie. It's on maps and all), but the people of the community refer to their (our) community in more instancers as Miawpukek, and hope to make Miawpukek the "official" name soon. No official move to do so, but we are using the name and it is catching on...

hello in my article of Christopher Lee Alexander I was given a speedy deletion. I posted this on here to inform others about Chris and explain how he was a great musician who became a donator for the needy. I think this subject is very important. my last change

[edit]

Ok i understand but I really don't know any other place that i could put it. Wikipedia works best in ANY occasion. I believe in the "when in rome" theory so what exactly should I do to fix it up? I also think that if a person devoted his life to a cause of helping others he should sort of spot... especially when you can put what kind of armor a character in a video game wears in the same place. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kurruptkaos (talkcontribs)

You're telling me the reason the page is scheduled to be dleted is because you misinterpreted it for a how-to? the page just like any other is for information. It could also be used for changing of idea but so could any page. Someone could read the hulk hogan bio and decide to become a wrestler. the Chris Alexander page wasn't made to change ideas or thoughts. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kurruptkaos (talkcontribs)

I understand your idea of it not being a dumping ground. You make alot of sense but you used my own words out of context. If you had read what i wrote clearly you would see I said, " I posted this on here to inform others about Chris and explain how he was a great musician who became a donator for the needy." in that sentence it clearly states that I made it to inform others and not to change ideas. Now in the next sentence yes you are correct in what it says. But your meaning of what i think comes first is off. I think that the information is the main part of this just as much as the next guy. Only difference is I stated what a majority of people think. Many people read about other things or people on here and think I want to do that or I want to be like that. I meant what I said as I want people to be able to understand who this person is and if they want to be like him that's a good thing. I wrote this to help you understand that it is safe to be like this person other than kids running outside thinking they should play with guns because they read about the U.S. Marines. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kurruptkaos (talkcontribs)

Icelandology

[edit]

Dear Ultimus, the Icelandology page was deleted without reason, because, before deletion, I could not discuss this. The first version of the page was deleted because it contains a link, and someone suspected that article is for promotion only. I have fixed the problem, but someone delete the page without discussion. Please restore the page and allow to discuss this before delete. Deleting is easy but writing is more laborious.--Yuiul 03:16, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

and sir also about "Wikipedia is not a dumping ground for content. If the material you're submitting isn't designed to inform people about a noteworthy subject (a good test to use in this case is "Is the subject more 'important' than a college professor?"), then it doesn't belong here." I learned about different types of music in my college music class and over the summer one of our assessments is to learn about 5 different bands or artist from a different country. I learned about the group and I attempted to post them on here. I don't see how this causes so much conflict. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kurruptkaos (talkcontribs)

Death and Taxes

[edit]

<<it's sad when people die, and I'm sorry, but putting their names into an encyclopedia isn't the right way to honor them.>>

I wasn't putting my brother in Wikipedia because he died. My black cat, Django, also died and I'm not adding a page on him, although he was originally named O.J. by my neighbors and renamed by me in honor of Django Reinhardt, when I adopted him in September 1996.

My brother's life and accomplishments don't compare to Paul McCartney's. But, I don't know what's so "NN" about some of the comedian's who have pages on Wikipedia, like Judah Friedlander, among others. And their pages don't all conform to the form some other editor was kind enough to send me to follow.

I have removed my previous paragraphs from my brother's page and have started over. To be continued. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Yvonnefitz (talkcontribs)

Where have your common morals and respects gone? Sir here are alot of people asking for a little bit of your time and a little attention but you can't grant any of it. half the people on this page have asked only for a moment of your time so you can tell them what is wrong with thier submission and hey can fix it. what you do is simply push them aside because you appeaarently have 'more important things to do.' there is absolutly no neeed for your insociability. You are being a jerk and It's not okay. Ya wikipedia... big deal. It's supposedly the free encyclopedia. Why should we even bother when you don't seem to care about when we are attempting to make it larger and help others. You aren't being reasonable and this is a big deal. I understand you must have alot to do at many points of the day but it's best to keep an even balance on things. Hey you want to delete my acount go ahead. I gave up on this site a long time ago but mark my words my dear friend. You have a non helpful attitude and what goes around comes around. You are self centered and egotistic. And my dear friend this is america last time i checked. I don't even know where I'm supposed to "talk"!

[edit]

And sometimes I don't know how to get even THIS far.

As per your last comments: <<This is much better. It clearly states who the subject is, and why they're important. I don't have any concerns with it anymore, but please ensure that any further content you add/readd to the article is worth mentioning and important to him being an inventor/entrepeneur. For example, is it really all that important that "He was also captain of the school's rifle team."?>>

I added that earlier because you gave me the impression there was nothing notable. I added his being actively invovled in the Student Organization, and also was Treasurer, and then added the fact that he was captain of the rifle team. The former is related to the award the Alumni Association gives in his memory, since June 1993, and the latter was more info about his "leadership". Guess I am too literal, but when I get a complaint I try and respond accordingly.

I've been referring to the page about {[Sir]] William Stephenson, the Canadian soldier and spymaster whose life may have been an inspiration for James Bond. I am using that for the biographical form.

By the way, my brother was later in the R.O.T.C., in college -- does this relate to his having been captain of the rifle team in high school? But he screwed up on his way out of Mexico and got kicked out of college. And, now that I remember, he was a marksman first class in camp, even before high school. But he didn't become a soldier [Vietnam time], his drug bust kept him from serving [and as my mother said, who went through hell after he got sent to jail, it may have saved him from "coming home in a "box"]. He didn't become a soldier, he became a Hippie, a concert promoter, an entrepreneur, an Indian Trader [one of the few recognized] and an inventor. He also eventually drank himself to death [Hepatitis and alcohol don't mix well].

<<Good job though. It's nice to see a change from all of the nonsense people submit every day. With some people around here, I sometimes wonder if they ever sat through an English class at all. (|-- UlTiMuS ( U | T | C [] M | E ) 03:43, 16 July 2006 (UTC)>>

Unfortunately, I am unable to complete his page at this time, having several personal issues to take care of, such as the Social Securtiy Administration claiming it has no "verification" of my citizenship at this time (when I have been a citizen since November 11, 1954, have worked since I was 17, paid my taxes, voted, etc.). I have tons of paperwork to take care of, plus am job hunting after a job lay-off. So I have my hands full. If having an incomplete page is not good, should I remove the "Early Life" section and just keep the opening paragraph -- as a "stub"?

<<In an unrelated matter, it would be helpful to others if you typed Yvonnefitz 19:29, 16 July 2006 (UTC) after your comments on talk pages to sign yourself (like I do). Qur'an

[edit]

I think its removal is pretty straight-forward, and I'm surprised that it survived in the article for so long. Why is it a 'technical issue'? --Bluerain (talk) 10:49, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

There were 3 opinions expressed on the talk page, excluding mine. From where will I build consensus? I should've mentioned on the talk page, that there are articles that already deal with the war issue in the current context - Islamism, Jihad, Criticism of Islam, etc. - which was the only alternative opinion expressed (by Benne). The other one was that the section is unnecessary. If you also take into account the views given in Talk:Qur'an#Quotes from the Qur'an which deals with the same issue, I think that's enough consensus. Also, I didn't mean to ignore what you said, but on my side, I had two options - one, to keep the article in its current state, with stuff that is clearly biased and potentially inflammatory; two, that I remove what to me seems like a case of vandalism that someone should've removed long ago. I can understand that you would like Wikipedia policy to be respected, but even at the sake of improving an article - which all policies are anyway about in the first place? --Bluerain (talk) 12:56, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
So now can I go ahead and remove it? --Bluerain (talk) 07:51, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

Catholic Encyclopedia Articles

[edit]

Hi,

Thanks for your message. I'm trying to automate as much as possible the creation of the Catholic Encyclopedia articles, and so am trying to do them as stubs.

The claim to fame is that they are appearing in the 1913 Catholic Encyclopedia and under the Missing articles project "to ensure that Wikipedia has a corresponding article for every article in every other encyclopedia."

I realise I could have made this clearer.

Sorry for any confusion.

Hi Ultimus,

I see you just changed the link to Karaoke (entertainment) to a direct link to Karaoke - is this correct? I'm a bit confused by the correct procedure here. According to WP:DAB#Primary topic the link back should always be to an unambiguous name (hence Karaoke (entertainment)), but it seems like this convention is not followed much on Wikipedia. Any ideas? — SteveRwanda 14:23, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

So is the passage I mentioned on the WP:DAB page also wrong? If so it should be corrected. Cheers — SteveRwanda 14:42, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
It does refer to links - in the example it mentions, the main topic page is at Rome, but the Rome (disambiguation) page links back not to Rome, but to the unambiguous Rome, Italy which then redirects to Rome. — SteveRwanda 15:10, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi, I think the problem was that I'd messed up the input box on the page you've now linked me to, which I'd just been using - I was sd'ing my incorrectly placed nom just as you were, as soon as I had realised (so there was an edit conflict). Thanks for your help, Martinp23 18:49, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

I'm having a slight problem with this now - I've written my nom, but when I try to place it on WP:RFA, it get an error that a link to blacklisted spam site is being placed (which of course I've not done). I there any way you can help? Thanks Martinp23 19:19, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
This is really dodgy - I've been trying to add the nom to the main RfA page, using the text you sent me, but its still telling me that there is a link to the page on the spam blacklist in the edit I'm trying to make. I'm really grateful for all your help - thanks Martinp23 19:34, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
OK - sorted now. Thanks very much for all your help. :D Martinp23 20:08, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

Eniga club

[edit]

Hey there, give me a few minutes to perfect the Enigma clubs page please? I'm not a member, and it is notable. Mathiastck 20:40, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Your signature

[edit]

Ultimus, your signature is pretty long; I'd suggest, if I may, shortening it. WP:SIG recommends about 200 characters. Email and user contributions are accessible from the toolbox when you are at an editor's talk page or user page and...I'm not sure why you link to User:Ultimus/Templates/Message. Anyway, I've noticed your good work at AfD, but your signature is sorta' distracting, so I figured I'd drop you a message about it.--Chaser T 23:09, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, I figured is was a bit obnoxious anyway. Just a bit over 200 char's now. (|-- UlTiMuS 09:12, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
Thanks. Looks good. Now I've just got to get you reading messages at the top of people's talk pages. ;-) --Chaser T 09:14, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
Heh. Sorry about that. (|-- UlTiMuS 09:15, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
Though you see... your talk page notice directly conflicts with mine. (|-- UlTiMuS 09:17, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
I stand corrected.--Chaser T 09:18, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

What's the idea?

[edit]

I'm working on filling out the basic topic lists. And you've nominated one for deletion before it has even gotten a chance to grow. Please do not apply "All or nothing reasoning" to this project. Thank you. --Nexus Seven 09:43, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Hey mate im tRyin to sort the KINTO SOL page out and your puttin it up for deletion-why? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by CharlesBronson18 (talkcontribs) .

you said-"it is an article about a band, singer, musician, or musical ensemble that does not assert the importance or significance of the subject" I think it does assert the importance of the subject, I dont understand what your problem is. Anyway, Im not gonna use Wikipedia anymore, I tried to contribute a few pages to this site, but you seem to be on an editing powertrip and I bet there are many more of you out there, entonces adios Wikipedia. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by CharlesBronson18 (talkcontribs) .
