Vettaikaran (Tamil: வேட்டைக்காரன், English translation: Hunter) is a forthcoming 2009 Kollywood film being directed by Babu Sivan, who with Vettaikaran, directs his first feature film. Despite several rumours regarding the lead actors, Vijay and Anushka Shetty have been formally announced to portray the lead roles. Initially titled and referred to as Vettaikaran, the project was launched by Babu Sivan and produced by M. Balasubramanian and B.Gurunath Meiyappan. This film is expected to be released in december 2009 [4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11]

After Director Babu Sivan being an associate director to famous director Dharani,[13] Babu Sivan learns how to direct film. After Dharani completing a project titled Kuruvi[14] with Vijay and Trisha, Babu Sivan brings his story to be a film. This film was initially titled as Vettaikaran, a titled reffering to previous blockuster of MGR`s Vettaikaran[15] hoping to a blockbuster too for Babu Sivan`s first directed featured film.

The shooting of Villu has just finished. So, Vijay is taking a short break. It is said that the shooting will begin early in November 2008.[16] After Vijay signing in Babu Sivan`s Vettaikaran project, AVM along with Vijay was in search of a for the female lead. Initial speculations were that Asin Thottumkal[17][18] would take over the role, but Asin is busy in Bollywood`s London Dreams with Salman Khan. So later reports suggested that Ileana D'Cruz, who debuted in blockbuster Tollywood`s Pokiri, would handle the female lead. After an unsuccesful Kedi, Ileana disagree with Vijay`s call back to Kollywood. So, Vijay and his call back to Anushka.[19].
