From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

My intent is mostly to correct rampant spelling, grammar and syntactical errors throughout Wikipedia. If you disagree with any of my changes I'd be happy to discuss my perspective and attempt to reach a mutually agreeable solution.

Background[edit]

I have been a professional newspaper reporter, copy editor, layout editor and assigning editor for more than nine years. I have a wide variety of interests, including science, history, music, politics, religion, pop culture, literature and fine art.

Editing philosophy[edit]

"Brevity is the soul of wit." — William Shakespeare

  • Fewer words usually means greater clarity — provided the editor doesn't jettison the subtle shades of meaning of the original wording. Connotation is everything.

"A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds." — Ralph Waldo Emerson

  • Any rule, no matter how well conceived and executed, has exceptions. "Because that's how we've always done it," is never a sufficient rationale for a procedure or course of action.

"Eat my shorts." — Bart Simpson

  • Lighten up. If you can't smile once in a while, what's the point of anything?
