throughout his career, whitaker has distinguished himself by immersing himself in

Producing and directing Whitaker branched out into producing and directing in the 1990s. He co-produced and co-starred in A Rage in Harlem in 1991. He made his directorial debut with a grim film about inner-city gun violence, Strapped, for HBO in 1993. In 1995, he directed his first feature, Waiting to Exhale, which was based on the Terry McMillan's novel of the same name. Roger Ebert observed that the tone of the film resembled Whitaker's own acting style: "measured, serene, confident."[1] Whitaker also directed co-star Whitney Houston's music video of the movie's theme song ("Shoop Shoop").

Whitaker continued his directing career with the 1998 romantic comedy, Hope Floats, starring Sandra Bullock and Harry Connick, Jr.. He directed Katie Holmes in the romantic comedy, First Daughter in 2004; he had co-starred with Holmes in Phone Booth in 2002.

Whitaker was also an executive producer on First Daughter. He had previously executive produced several made-for-television movies, most notably the 2002 Emmy-award winning Door to Door, starring William H. Macy.

Whitaker was slated to write and direct a live-action movie adaptation of Bill Cosby's cartoon, Fat Albert, but differences between the two led to Whitaker leaving the production in 2001.[2]

the force of Whitaker's big-hearted, hugely emotional performance is still being felt. He's simply terrific,

Category:People by ethnic or national origin[edit]

I would like to propose some changes to this category's many sub-categories based on an effort already undertaken for the sub-cat Category:Canadian people by ethnic or national origin. The idea is to clarify the current use of sub-categories like "French Mexicans" or "New Zealand Australians" or "Italian Indians." These sub-cats won't be eliminated, but instead will be used for consistently. The new paradigm consists of sub-categories like:

  • "Foo-ians of Goo-ian descent" -- for Foo-born Foo-ians who have one parent or grandparent from Goo.
  • "Foo-ian Goo-ians" -- for Foo-ians of full Goo-ian origin (both parents Goo-ian). It also includes those born in the Goo to a Foo-ian parent or parents who later obtained Foo-ian citizenship.
  • "Goo-ian immigrants to Foo" -- people of Goo-ian citizenship who attain Foo-ian citizenship

The other thing is that bios often don't go back more than one generation. (Kidman's article is silent on her origins beyond Australia because that's what she is -- Australian. According to some quick research, Kidman's parents are of Scottish descent on her mother's side and Irish descent on her father's.)
