Václav Talich

Thanks for your note about Václav Talich. I have corrected some of the English that you had written, and also corrected the reference header. Your additions are nice. After I made my corrections, I must say that there are some things that we are not allowed to say on wikipedia, just as some examples.

• With the accusations of collaboration, you said that these were "senseless". That is a very strong word in English, and we cannot use such words, however true that they are. You must simply say that "the charges were refuted", or something like that. You must also provide a citation.
• You also called him the "most renowned" Czech conductor. Whilst lovers of Czech classical music know that Talich was very famous, we cannot say that he was "most renowned", because other people can say that about other conductors. It is difficult sometimes to choose just one such conductor, and that is why it is best not to use such words.

I think that you are a great admirer of Václav Talich, which is very understandable. The situation with wikipedia is that we must be objective when we work on articles, especially with people or subjects that we like. We cannot be "fans" and just write anything. Ideally, the wikipedia entry presents just the facts about a person or subject. Then it allows the people who read the article to come to their own conclusions and judgments. However, please note that that the movements have been numbered with a "#" symbol. You don't need to add the numbers again to signify the movement. Please take a look at how the numbers work. Hi again, thanks for the links. I have a few specific suggestions of things that you should do when writing new articles (or even when checking over old ones):

• compositions should have {{Classical|composition=yes}} on the talk page
• composers should have {{Composers}} on the talk page
• composers and performers should (in addition to {{Classical}}) also have {{WPBiography}} on the talk page
• the biography banner should probably include the following parameters
  • living=yes if the subject is alive
  • listas=Lastname, Firstname

I'm uncertain if there should be an infobox for articles about composers or performers -- there's lots of discussion on the subject.

When you add citations, use citation templates (like {{cite book}},{{cite album-notes}},{{cite web}}). I'm currently working on redoing the citations for Winterreise, you can look at how I'm doing it here, there are several ways to do it worked into the source there. This is hard to do without the materials in hand, which is why it's better if the editor who adds the references does it.

Youth (Wind Sextet)

Hi. Under some of the clarinet keys is a little spring, indispensable for the playing, and probably that spring was broken. I´ve found the source again, it´s typo there. I added the information about his father to the Jakub Hrůša page. If I understood the next part of your last message correctly, I don't think that Petr Hrůša is famous enough in English-speaking countries that he should have an English-language wikipedia page. However, I don't know how famous he is in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, so it would be a decision of Czech wikipedians if he is famous enough that he should have a Czech-language wikipedia page.

It is no problem about the English grammar, since the hardest thing is to find reliable information for wikipedia pages. Fixing grammar is very easy. For comparison, I cannot speak Czech, so that I would never dare to edit any page on Czech wikipedia :) . Thanks again, DJRafe (talk) 17:11, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

Someone left this answer of my page: You can either use {{Audio-IPA|name of sound file|IPA notation|lang=Language}} or if you don't want the IPA you can use {{Audio|name of sound file|text to use as link to soundfile}}.

I'm not sure we have enough new blood to re-evaluate it at the moment, but we should once we do. May I suggest that you join in on Featured sounds for now,. to help evaluate the new content, and, if you can, to find new, higher-quality content? I don't think we should look for perfection yet, but we can insist on reasonably high standards while still making sure the project gains the necessary critical mass to eventually attract the best-quality work. Ktož jsú boží bojovníci

Do you know anything about "Kdoz jste Bozl bojovnici" [sic] in the Smetana section of the Symphonic poem page? There seems to be variety of spellings. There's an English page entitled Kdož jsou Boží bojovníci and the Czech Wikipedia offers . The only reference that I have on hand has "Ktož jsú boží bojowníci". František Drdla

Hello Vejvančický: There are still 2 concerns on the Drdla page. I'm not sure of the exact meaning.

1. “He performed at the concerts in Europe (1899-1905) as well as in America (1923-1925).” – The problem is with "the". In reading the previous sentences, the reader doesn't know which specific "concerts" you are referring to. Is this sentence translated from Czech? Are the "concerts" solo performances (with orchestra, etc.)? Would this sentence possibly be better as “He performed in Europe... ” or combined with one of the previous sentences: “A well-known concert violinist, Drdla toured throughout Europe (1899-1905) and the United States (1923-1925).” ...But then what is the constructive reason for mentioning the specific years? Were those the only years he performed extensively? What about the years from 1905 to 1923??
2. “In 1927 the Austrian president awarded Drdla the professor degree.” ...Again, the reader doesn't know what "the professor degree" is. I think it would be better reworded or explained.

František Škroup

Hello Vejvančický, I have added a list of works to the František Škroup page. Would you mind looking over the Czech titles when you have a moment? There are a couple of items that I question, for example, references list the vocal work Dobrau noc [sic]. Is this spelling a dialect or misspelling? Also for Drátenjk (as printed on the Czech-published score) or Dráteník (from the Czech Wikipedia). How would you translate "Drahomíra"?
