Sainik School Tilaiya is a premiere boarding school for boys in india, one of the 24 sainik schools which are run by the ministry of defence, government of india.[1]The primary aim of Sainik School is to prepare boys academically, physically and mentally for entry into the Defence Services and those who do not make the grade, for responsible positions in the various other walks of life.
It is located at the foothills of tilaiya dam in koderma district of jharkhand, 18 kms from koderma railway station.

On 16 September 1963 the foundation stone of Sainik School Tilaiya was laid in the lap of the nature with the accomplishment of the strenuous job by the then Chief Minister of Bihar K B Sahay, Union Defence Minister K Krishna Menon and the founding Principal Lt. Col. L.E.G. Smith. Since then, SST has been successfully pursuing its goal of sending cadets of the Defence Forces through the NDA. Of about 600 officers that the school has till date sent to the NDA, some have reached the ranks of Brigadiers and Major General

infrastructure[edit]

The school boasts of a state of the art infrastructure. The new academic block started functioning from 2005-06.School provides a well stocked Library with Internet access and a smart class room. There is a four storey hostel building which provides accomodation to all the students from class 7 to 12. The school has ample facilities for sports and other activities including football, hockey ,basketball,volleyball,squash,lawn tennis and table tennis. The school also has a horse riding club.

A Gymnasium with adequate work stations is also available

The school has a 12 bed hospital including an Isolation ward. There is a dedicated staff of four employees including two qualified nursing assistants and two nursing attendants. Facilities for nursing of common routine ailments and accidents are available 24x7. The school ambulance transports boys during emergencies and is also used for the conveyance of boys to specialists.

A tailor shop, barber shop, cobbler shop, general store and a cafeteria is available in shopping complex along with couple of STD booths.

Cadets are permitted to use Canteen Store Department (CSD) Facilities.

There are 14 houses with the strength of each house varies from 60 to 70 cadet. Each house is supervised by a housemaster assisted by an assistant housemaster.There is a house captain for each house who is selected from class 12th.The houses are -
