Article Critique[edit]

I visited the Anime music video page on Wikipedia, and found three aspects of it worth commenting on: the lack of citations, the biased information, and the problems with structure and completeness.

Citations[edit]

One of the last sections titled “Related” gives examples of things related to anime music videos, but doesn’t give any sources. They could have sourced the “Britney Spears: Break the Ice” video that they mentioned, but they failed to. They leave no proof to substantiate their claims of what these other video forms are, they could have found them referenced in other media and used that as a source.

Bias[edit]

In the section titled “Legal Issues,” they have a very biased voice towards anime music videos. They mention how many people and companies like and permit them to be made using copyrighted materials, but say very little about those who don’t. The only reference made to the other side of this issue is one mention of a single company who requested videos using their music were taken down and an unsubstantiated claim that corporations generally see AMVs in negative light.

Structure/Completeness[edit]

The earlier mentioned “Related” section seems to serve no purpose in this article; it has no bearing on what an anime music video is while it should be being used to explain what it is or does. In regards to completeness, they only focus on one aspect of creation. They mention three types of video editing techniques all related to syncing up the video with rhythm or lyrics, while there are other important aspects of creation such as creating a theme, mood, or flow to the video.

Summary[edit]

The article has some good points and does explain what an anime music video is, but it needs to get rid of the unnecessary information. It also needs to actually talk about legal issues in the section on legal issues more than just a passing mention among stories praising AMVs.
