Washington DC Triathlon The innagural Washington DC Triathlon took place on June 20, 2010. The race consisted of both a sprint and an olympic distance triathlon. The sprint race was an 0.8K swim, a 20K bike and a 6.7K run. The standard Olympic Distance race was a 1.5 K swim, a 40K bike, and a 10K run. The course was a completley closed course, which athletes always look forward to. The swim took place in the Potamac river, the bike course left East Potamac park and traveled past the famous landmarks of the DC area. Athletes cruised past the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, the World War II Memorial and the White House. The run was along the National Mall, and finished with the US Capitol Building in the background. Among the 2800 participants was the nation's fittest mayor, Adrian Fenty. Nearly 1/3 of the athletes were first time triathletes.
