Southcrest Christian School[1] is a private pre-K through 12th grade school that has roughly 415 students. SCS is a self supported ministry operated by Southcrest Baptist Church[2] The school was founded in 1993 under the leadership of Dr. David Wilson. Southcrest Christian School is accredited through the Accreditation Commission of the Texas Association of Baptist Schools (ACTABS) and the Texas Education Association (TEA).

Athletics

Southcrest Christian School offers competitive team and individual sports in basketball, volleyball, golf, tennis, cross-country, cheerleading and track and field. Students may participate starting in 6th grade.

Academics

Southcrest Christian School provides a Christian education (Pre-K through 12th grade) with challenging academics in a loving and diverse environment. The intent at Southcrest Christian School to equip students with every tool, not just to be successful and productive, but to be motivators and world changers. They strive to teach students that their gifts and talents are to be used not only for their own self-fulfillment but also for the blessing and benefit of others.

Fine Arts

Southcrest Christian School offers many fine arts classes, beginning with music from Pre-K - 4th grades.

During 5th and 6th grades, all students are enrolled in band and begin learning the basics of playing, reading, and understanding written music. Band is offered as an elective to students enrolled in 7th – 12th grades. The award winning band program has earned first division in all contests entered as well as many Best in Class awards. Students have excelled by advancing to the state level in solo and ensemble competitions as well as several being selected for All Region Band and Honor Band. During the 2013-2014 school year, a senior at SCS was selected to the All State Band while competing against students in both public and private schools.

Art is offered as an elective for students enrolled in 7th – 12th grades. Student's artwork is often exhinited at The Arts Festival and The Fair.  Many students are awarded ribbons at both competitions.

Musical Theater is offered as an elective for students enrolled in 7th – 12th grades. This class is a mixture of both choir and musical theater. Students will study the work of the actor and singer and use their gained knowledge to develop as performers. Students will prepare and present as soloists as well as members of small groups and larger ensembles. Since this is also a music course, students will study music theory as well as learn how to read music. In addition, students will evaluate theatrical performances, prepare audition material and perform on stage in front of various audiences.

Southcrest Christian School utilizes the following SOI programs as part of every day instruction in Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten: Learning Discovery - Learning Discovery is designed to prepare preschool students for the expectations of primary education. Both cognitive and perceptual abilities are strengthened with this program. (Pre-Kindergarten classes) Certified Learning - Certified Learning, a web-based program, teaches all of the intellectual abilities your student needs for academic success. The skills and abilities are taught through workbook, computer, and physical exercises at the student’s individual pace. (Kindergarten)
