Wasim S. Hashmi Syed was born on 23 March 1963 at Karachi, he got his early education from PAF College Sarghodha and Rawalpindi, and obtained Higher Secondary Education certificate from Federal Government Sir Syed College Rawalpindi in 1980. Received Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical from University of Engineering Lahore (Taxila campus) in 1986. His first job at Sheikh Zayed Hospital Lahore as a hospital engineer, he served there from October 1986 – December 1991. Mr. Hashmi Syed got admission in MS leading to PhD studies at University of Louisville Kentucky USA in 1992, and obtained MS in Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management in 1995, and received PhD candidacy in 1997. He started working as a client support specialist at Dey Systems Louisville Kentucky USA, and worked there till 2000, and then joined Wako Electronics Louisville as a design engineer. He served at Wako till August 2003, and then moved back to Pakistan in September 2003. Mr. Hashmi joined Higher Education Commission (HEC) Islamabad in Feb 2004 as Project Director and assigned project to engage foreign faculty from overseas to place in Pakistani Higher Education Institutions. Later he was assigned various other mega projects funded by planning commission of Pakistan. In 2013, Mr. Hashmi resigned from HEC and joined National ICT R&D Fund Islamabad as a General Manger Monitoring and served there till Feb 2016. Mr. Hashmi again joined Higher Education Commission (HEC) as an Advisor Human Resource Development and served there till August 2019. Mr. Hashmi was hired as an Advisor International Linkages at Pak-Austria Fachhochschule Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology Haripur for a period one year. He was assigned the task for getting accreditation for the Institute from Higher Education Commission (HEC) and Pakistan Engineering Council. In January 2022, he was appointed as a Member Authority Board at NADRA by Prime Minister of Pakistan for a full tenure of three years. Currently Mr. Hashmi is serving in the same position and engage in policy making decisions and reviewing the existing policies and reviewing the business plans of directorates. He was also appointed member of HR Committee, Finance & Audit Committee, Technical Committee. In last two decades, Mr. Hashmi played key role in development of higher education sector, and establish education collaboration with 29 countries, and engaging foreign organizations such as USAID, British Council, DAAD Germany, European Union, Turkish Higher Education Council, Campus France, JICA, China Road and Bridge Corporation, Australian International Research Council, Transportation Research Institute (IMOB) Belgium, Huawei, Hungarian Government Scholarships.
