WeBeOne[edit]

My username stands for the idea that we all are basically the same. "One People" -- that sort of thing. I also believe that we have a oneness as children of God. I find it helpful to think of everyone as part of the same family, and to strive to treat others not only as brothers and sisters, but as we would want them to treat us (eg The Golden Rule).

My real name is John Minard. I'm a Christian Science practitioner based in New Jersey. I also serve as the Christian Science Committee on Publication for the Internet. In this role I work with others to correct false or misleading statements about Christian Science that appear on the Net. There is a lot of misinformation about Christian Science on the Internet, and our role is not to change peoples' opinions, but to at least get the facts right about the Christian Science practice, the Church, and Mary Baker Eddy the woman who established Christian Science. We're not out to proselytize or to sugar-coat what is said about Christian Science, but to seek balance and accuracy.

A Christian Science practitioner is someone who works with others for healing, of all kinds, using the prayerful healing system of Christian Science. Christian Science is based on a spiritual sense of the Bible, in particular Jesus' teachings. Christian Scientist strive to follow Jesus in the ways he instructed in the New Testament. He clearly requested his followers to heal others through prayer and a trustful understanding of God. Healing is a key focus in Christian Science practice. We've had a pretty successful record of healing over the last roughly 125 years since Christian Science was founded by Mary Baker Eddy.
