The Tornado Outbreak of April 27-30, 2023 is a tornado outbreak that produced scattered tornadoes across the Southern and Southeastern United States. The tornadoes spawned by the outbreak impacted states of Texas, Georgia and Virginia.

April 27 event[edit]

A nearby house was unroofed and also sustained collapse of exterior walls on its second floor, while a couple of other homes had extensive roof damage. Numerous outbuildings were damaged or destroyed, a gas station and an adjacent building were damaged, and many trees were snapped or uprooted as well.[1]
EF1 Lynn Haven Bay FL 30°14′55″N 85°39′53″W / 30.2485°N 85.6647°W / 30.2485; -85.6647 (Lynn Haven (Apr. 27, EF1)) 20:04–20:05 0.83 mi (1.34 km) 75 yd (69 m) A brief high-end EF1 tornado destroyed a house's carport, resulting in failure of most of the home's roof. The roof was thrown 20 yards (18 m) into another home, which sustained cracks in its walls, and cars in the driveway were lifted and turned. Some roof panels were blown off a gazebo, the roof of a large shed was lofted a short distance, and windows were broken. Trees were snapped, and patio furniture was tossed as well.[2]

EF0 Boynton Beach Palm Beach FL 26°30′22″N 80°04′48″W / 26.506°N 80.08°W / 26.506; -80.08 (Boynton Beach (Apr. 28, EF0)) 23:33–23:38 0.8 mi (1.3 km) 100 yd (91 m) Half a dozen homes sustained minor roof damage. Awnings were twisted and tossed, landing several homes away. Trees were damaged and snapped along the path as well.[6]

An apartment building had a significant portion of its roof removed, and a clubhouse at the complex also had its roof blown off. Multiple cars were flipped, thrown, and stacked on top of one another, some of which were caught on video being tossed by the tornado. Homes sustained roof damage and had windows blown out, boats were tossed around at a small marina, and metal dumpsters were moved. Large metal light poles and signs were toppled over, and a concrete electrical pole was tilted. Palm trees were shredded, numerous other hardwood trees were snapped or uprooted, and a few were stripped of their branches and sustained low-end debarking.[7][8][9]

EF3 Northern Virginia Beach City of Virginia Beach VA 36°52′59″N 76°05′10″W / 36.883°N 76.086°W / 36.883; -76.086 (Virginia Beach (Apr. 30, EF3)) 21:48–21:53 4.52 mi (7.27 km) 350 yd (320 m) An intense tornado moved through residential areas in northern Virginia Beach, shifting large and well-built homes off their foundations, ripping off roofs, and removing their upper floor exterior walls. Vehicles were overturned, and many large trees were snapped or uprooted, some of which landed on houses. It weakened as it moved across Bay Island and Fort Story before moving out into the Atlantic Ocean. Barracks at Fort Story had roofing material torn off, trees were downed, and boats were moved or sunk along the final portion of the path. According to the City of Virginia Beach, about 115 homes were damaged.[11]
