This is the user page for WikiBlackledge once a true believer whose spirit soared upon his idealistic concept of Wikipedia and who now understands the harsh reality created by relentless bureaucracy and merciless editing.

The page also provides a forward link to my work in developing Wikipedia articles for the general historical aspect of the SS Monte Cervantes. For help in creating any such article, we recommend Your First Article. When this page in my estimate was complete or 'good enough,' we used the simple concept of renaming, i.e., Moving a page technique to create our desired Monte Cervantes article within the Wikipedia structure.

We learned to create a Lead Section, Contents, and other sections, plus upload photos (images or files).

The Monte Cervantes article was comprised to include references to Ushuaia Argentina and to the former rescue tug HMS Justice (W-140) (now the St. Christopher) among others.

Adding Images to Articles

In my naïveté, it took me awhile to realize that Wikipedia is the juxtapostion of two worlds: the Wikipedia.org world, and the Wikipedia Commons world. I need to establish a User Name in both worlds.

Most of what one needs to know about adding images is found under Wikipedia Commons (click on http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:Search), which is where all photos for Wikipedia library are uploaded. For information on uploading, use the shortcut search: COM:UP (can be lower case) If I find a photo on http://www.flickr.com/ and its rights are reserved, I cannot use that photo in my article. Even if the owner were to add me as their contact, so I could download the photo, Wikipedia would not allow me to use their photo in an article even though I had the owner's permission to do so.

For me to upload and use the photo, the owner must already have (or be willing to change to) sharing licensing on the photo. The only two categories of license that Wikipedia can use are:

• Attribution 2.0 Generic and
• Attribution-Share Alike 2.0 Generic

Of course the work would be attributed to the photographer/owner in the Wikipedia Commons description. And their work would be seen in the resulting article. I suggest this article: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:First_steps which provides an outline of the Wikipedia Commons process and links to more info. The search shortcut is COM:FS (for First Steps).

Here is a photo I have successfully brought in from Flikr using the Flinfo tool: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:End_of_the_world_prison.jpg Once I get my Monte Cervantes article published in Wikipedia, I plan to nominate this photo as Featured Picture Candidate: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Featured_picture_candidates which has shortcut WP:FPC .

Once you have the photos you want to use, to learn how to position them and size them, go back to Wikipedia and use the shortcut: WP:Image
Note: don't forget to provide the full reference for images, especially for "foreign" photographs - however there is only one 'Commons' area]
