What is a "CV Database"

A CV is the widely used acronym for Curriculum Vitae. A Curriculum Vitae is a written document which defines the career history about someone who works.

The phrase "CV Database" was coined by the founders of the Cvindex.com project in 1998.

It was intended as a short nome de plume to provide a headline description of the web application which was written to aggregate a group of CVs Resumes) for the purposes of recruiters and employers looking for staffing candidates.

"Searchable CV Database" was then devised by the [Cvindex] Team as a convenient strapline description of the service. The word "searchable" was invented - since it does not exist in the English language - to indicate that the database of CVs could be fully searched by way of free text searches and searches by work type.

The phrase cv database is now in widespread use on the web, to describe services which offer a similar service to employers and recuiters.
