This is a collection on my thoughts regarding Wikipedia:Portals. For context, I have strong eventualist leanings.

  1. Portals do not need maintainers. The idea that we should require someone to be in charge of a page for it to exist is antithetical to WP:OWN.
  2. Evaluating whether a topic is "broad" is similar to evaluating whether a subject is notable. Breadth is not temporary and it is based upon the existence of suitable articles not whether they have been incorporated into the portal yet.
