Modern Naval Battles

This is a general working list of post 1900 naval surface actions (combat engagements between naval vessels) that i have identified as lacking general articles. Many are extremely obscure, and probably lack sufficient detail in secondary sources to feasibly complete any wikipedia article.

Venezuelan Civil War

• Action of 7 February 1902 - Rebel auxiliary cruiser Libertador sinks Venezuelan gunboat General Crespo.

Russo Japanese War

• Action of 22 March 1904 - Japanese battleships attack Port Arthur, Russians battleships repulse them.

Italo-Turkish War

• Action of 2 October 1911 - Italian cruiser Aretusa and Destroyer Volturno engage Ottoman cruiser Berk-i Satvet off Al Hudaydah and shell the port there.
• Bombardment of the Dardanelles (1912)

World War One

• Action of 27 March 1918, while laying minefield A34 70 nmi (81 mi; 130 km) north-west of Heligoland, Abdiel, together with Legion, Telemachus, Vanquisher, Ariel and Ferret encountered three armed German trawlers, Polarstern, Mars and Scharbentz. All three trawlers are sunk in action.

Russian Civil War

• Action of 19 June 1919 - British gunboats and monitors engage Bolshevik Dvina River Flotilla
• Action of 28 June 1919 - British gunboats and monitors engage Bolshevik Dvina River Flotilla
• Action of 8 July 1919 - Bolshevik Dvina River Flotilla engages British vessels at Troitsa.
• Action of 10 August 1919 - British gunboats and monitors engage Bolshevik Dvina River Flotilla

Spanish Civil War

• Action of 10 October 1937 - Nationalist gunboats Dato and Canovas del Castillo sink armed blockade runner Cabo Santo Tome in an action off Bona.

World War Two

• Action of 21 August 1941 - German auxiliary gunboat SAT-1 Ost defends a German convoy from attack by two Soviet destroyers.
• Action of 8 December 1941 - British gunboat HMS Peterel is attacked and sunk by Japanese Gunboat Toba and the Japanese Armoured Cruiser Izumo.
• Action of 14 February 1942 - British auxiliary gunboat HMS Li Wo attacks a Japanese convoy and is sunk by its escorts.
• Action 17 September 1943 - Off Stampalia, two armed German freighters and their escort, UJ 2104, are attacked by a Greek and two British destroyers.
• Action of 19 March 1944 - French destroyers Le Terrible and Le Malin sink German Siebel ferries SF273 and SF274 and damage two more.
• Action of 16 February 1945 - Squadron of Japanese Suicide Boats attacks squadron of US Navy LCI(L)'s sinking three of them.
• Action of 18 February 1945 - American destroyers USS Dortch and USS Clarence K. Bronson engage a Japanese picket boat, which is subsequently rammed and sunk by destroyer USS Waldron.
• Action of 26 February 1945 - Off Honshu, a Japanese picket boat encounters and engages US Navy's Task Force 38, damaging USS Pasadena and USS Porterfield before being sunk in a fierce engagement.

• Action of 25 March 1945 - HMS Volage, Virago, Viligant, and Sumarez engage and sink Jap subchasers Ch 34 and Ch 63 along with storeships Rishio Maru and Teshio Maru
• Action of 12 June 1945 - Jap subchaser Ch 57 and auxiliary supply ship KUROSHIYO MARU No. 2 are engaged and sunk by British destroyers TARTAR, ESKIMO and NUBIAN
• Action off Onekotan - US Destroyer squadron makes hash out of a Japanese convoy and its escorts

South Moluccas Campaign

• Action of 16 July 1950 - Indonesian corvette KRI Pati Unus sinks two South Malukan Higgins boats and captures a third.

Chinese Civil War

• Action of 14 November 1954 - Nationalist Destroyer-Escort Tai Ping is attacked and sunk by 4 Communist torpedo boats.
• Action of 10 January 1955 - Nationalist subchaser Dong Ting is sunk by Communist torpedo boat No. 102 in a meeting engagement off the Dachen islands.
• Action of 20 January 1955 - Nationalist subchaser Yin Jiang is sunk by 4 communist torpedo boats off the Yijianghsan Islands.

Vietnam War

• Battle of Haiphong Harbor - American Cruiser and Destroyer squadron defeats North Vietnamese torpedoboat squadron.

Post Korean War

• Action of 25 March 1980 - South Koreans defeat North Koreans (1 South Korean mil killed 1 wounded, civ casualites nkor ship sunk)
• Action of 20 June 1980 - South Koreans defeat North Koreans (8 north kia 1 pow north ship sunk)
• Action of 20 October 1985 -South Koreans defeat North Koreans off Pusan (south korean ship damaged, northern one sunk)

Isreali Naval Actions

• Action of 19 April 1985 - Isreali gunboats sink the Palestinian freighter Antivarius (20 KIA, 8 POW)
• Sinking of Anton - Isreali Sa'ar class missile boat sinks the yacht Anton off Cyrpus.
• Action of 10 December 1987 - Isrealis defeat Hezbollah (1 isreali killed, 4 hezbollah killed)

Insurency in Bahrain

• Action of 9 February 2017 - Bahraini forces in at least two patrol boats engage and capture a Shia militant boat, killing 3 militants and capturing 10.

Bahamas EEZ Patrol

North Korea-Russian Incidents

• Action of 17 September 2019 - Two Russian Coast Guard Patrol Boats are attacked by a North Korean Schooner after capturing another North Korean schooner for poaching. The Russians return fire and capture the North Korean attacker, killing 1 and wounding 5 North Koreans while three russian coastguardsmen were wounded.

• Action of 20 January 1902 Columbian federals engage liberals off colon.
• Action of 3 November 1983 Honduran patrol boats defeat Nicaraguan patrol boats (2 nicaraguans wounded)
• Action of 19 April 1983 - Inconclusive engagement between 5 nicaraguan patrol boats and 2 from honduras

• Action of 8 October 1988 - US Helichopters engage 4 Iranian speedboats (2 iranians killed 6 missing 6 captured, 1 boat sunk 2 damaged)
• Action of 26 March 2010 - Emiratis defeat Saudis (2 Saudis wounded)
