Xiaoqian Yu

Xiaoqian Yu is currently a senior in Yale University, majoring in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry. Because her name is quite hard to pronounce, she is usually known as Annie.She gave herself this English name because she thinks that she resembles much the Anne in Anne of Green Gables. Xiaoqian is in Ezra Stiles College and she works in Prof.Micheal E. Hodsdon's lab[1], which is in the Department of Laboratory Medicine, and mainly focuses on using NMR spectroscopy to study the structure and dynamics of aqueous proteins. <http://www.hodsdon.com/lab/projects.html/>

Education

Xiaoqian has been to the UK and America for kindergarten when she was still a very young kid. Then she returned to Beijing with her parents and attended the First Elementary School of Zhongguancun. Then she went on to attend the High School of Peking University. During the summers of high school, Xiaoqian participated in the Summer Portals of the Hotchkiss School, which made her gain a new view of American education, prompting her to come to the US for college.

Dreams

Xiaoqian's biggest dream is to someday become a professor at Peking University. Another dream of her is to someday be able to donate enough money to Yale University and the Hotchkiss Summer Portals so that the amount equals the scholarship she received from both schools. She also hopes that someday she can help High School of Peking University to build a new gym. She also dreams that after retirement, she can open an ice cream shop named "76K ice cream" and sell liquid nitrogen ice cream. Xiaoqian's short term dreams are: get a nice grade in the macromolecular structure class she is taking; get lots of useful NMR spectra; get admitted by a graduate school that she likes;be able to learn Spanish and go to Spain for one summer; be able to travel to Germany and watch her favorite soccer player Raul Gonzalez play a game before he retires.
