Artificial Intelligence Facial Recognition Technology is one of the most advanced Information Technology in the 21 centuries, it is applied everywhere around the world. From businesses, to local government, to other organizations, facial recognition is or will be a crucial part of the Technology for them to distinguish individuals with as much accuracy as possible. Furthermore, facial recognition technology represents the future of biometrics in the mobile industry and is the cornerstone of advancing augmented reality technology. Companies in China started using this technology as a measure of security for payments few years ago, and now with the release of IPhone 8, Apple starts to use this technology to replace its existing unlock features. However, there is security concerns about privacy, with more usage of facial recognition technology, its massive image database is exposed and at risk at some point. Therefore, more researches need to be done on the advancement of this technology and the security concerns that comes with it. Background Facial recognition is a crucial human ability from a cognitive standpoint in human biology, and over the last few years, technologies can mimic and imitate this human ability to recognize human face and developing complicated measures for security and medical uses. 3D face recognition system is the new breakthrough in this field that helps improving the accuracy and reliability of this technology. It is based on " bending invariant canonical representation" (Voth, 2003). With 3D face recognition, companies are now able to distinguish the difference between a real human face and a picture of a human face. Video based recognition is another main group of research in face recognition technology. Based on the book Machine-based Face Recognition, companies with " cheap video cameras and fast computers for video processing" are more and more interested in video-based recognition. (Mou, 2010) After all, it is more practical to have screenshots from video capturing systems than picture taking. The applications of facial recognition technology have already taken place in many places of the world. In China, the country where this technology is vastly used throughout businesses and government agencies, it is a new experience for user and monitors. The author of the article Paying with Your Face, Will Knight visited the company Face++, whose core technology is facial recognition. During his tour, his face was added to the company mass data base, and as he walks around, a screen shows " the software tracking 83 different points" on his face at the same time (2017). These kind of complicated technology is promising in terms of security and accuracy when recognizing human faces and matching them with relative identities. Another Chinese Company, Baidu, is developing a system for people to use their face as rail tickets when passing through train stations, which brings so much more convenience for consumers and travelers. The newly released IPhone 8, uses facial recognition technology for users to unlock their phone. It proves to be a more effective method than finger print in the future and the market reaction towards it is generally positive with few negative concerns about privacy.
