Volcanic eruptions occur when magma, a mixture of molten rock, gases, and solids, rises from the Earth's mantle to the surface. This movement is driven by pressure from the buildup of magma within a volcanic chamber beneath the Earth's surface.

There are two primary types of volcanic eruptions: Explosive Eruptions- These eruptions involve the rapid release of gases trapped in the magma, leading to explosive bursts of ash, gas, and rock fragments. Effusive Eruptions- These eruptions involve the relatively gentle flow of lava onto the Earth's surface. Effusive eruptions typically occur when magma gas content is lower.

Signs of Impending Eruption. Earthquake Activity- An increase in the frequency and intensity of felt earthquakes near a volcano can indicate the movement of magma beneath the Earth's surface. Gas Emissions- Changes in the composition and volume of gases emitted by a volcano, such as sulfur dioxide and carbon dioxide, can signal the likelihood of an eruption. Ground Deformation: Swelling or bulging of the ground near a volcano, detected using ground-based monitoring equipment such as GPS and tiltmeters, may indicate magma movement underground.

Safety Precautions. If you are outside during a volcanic eruption, seek shelter indoors as quickly as possible to avoid exposure to volcanic ash and gases. Wear a dust mask or cover your nose and mouth with a handkerchief or cloth to minimize inhalation of volcanic ash particles. Individuals with pre-existing respiratory conditions, such as asthma or bronchitis, should take extra precautions to avoid exposure to volcanic ash, as it can exacerbate breathing difficulties. Keep informed about volcanic activity through local authorities, volcanic observatories, and news updates to stay safe and make informed decisions during an eruption.
